Battery mystery

So for some reason when I hook my battery up properly. The wire to the starter relay lights up Hot and battery sparks, I've checked the starter relay the ttarter the battery and all that's good, any info would be a big help, makalo

Make sure there are no shorts to ground. Any positive on ground will cause sparks to fly, and possibly fry components... Hopefully you haven't fried anything yet.

What year is your Wag/truck? Different years had different set ups.

Just found out that a friend used the truck, he left the lights on and killed the battery, when he jumped it he hooked up battery backwards for. A second, now when hooked up properly this is happening, any idea what might be fried?? It's an 89 grand wagoneer

Does it sound like the starter is trying to engage. I believe it is.

Unbolt the wire from the starter to the solenoid on the solenoid end. then see if the short is gone. If yes it is most likely the solenoid is welded together.

Good Possibility the solenoid is welded shut. Sometimes a whack with a hammer will open it. Or buy another solenoid & replace it then test again.
