Diameter of headlight opening on a square headlight FSJ...

Hey all... I have a line on some round headlights/buckets. I know their measurements for mounting... was wondering if anyone is home today with the lights out of their rig who could just measure the diameter of the opening (widest point across the circle for those who aren't sure). I don't know if it matters square vs round headlights, but mine has square ones; but I'll take whatever measurements anyone can give me. I just didn't have time to take my lights and buckets out and measure mine.

Thanks in advance...

Even if you have square headlights the hole underneath will be round. I can check after work since I have the grill off if nobody chimes in before then.

Yes, but I didn't know if there was a difference in the size of the round hole behind the lights (tried to make that clear but must not have) since round lights from a round light rig won't just bolt up to a square light rig without modification.

The round light buckets I have apparently came from a Gladiator and they definitely fit in the round holes behind the square lights on my '83 Cherokee. None of the screw/bolt mounting holes line up, but that's not a big deal.

I really do understand all of that, and I appreciate your time in answering... I went ahead and got the lights regardless. I know I can make them work...

What I did was go to my local Pick N' Pull and take all the measurements. Unfortunately the little scrap with all the figures is long gone. But with these measurements, I used little flat L-Brackets with holes in them to bridge the difference between my old factory drilled holes and the hole locations that I needed for my round lamps. It all worked out very well, and required no welding.... granted it's a little rigged up, but we are Jeepers... wuddya expect? LOL Once my Razor grille bezels were in place you can't really see any of my "fabrication" work.

I put the round buckets in my cherokee, witch was originally square. The tabs on the round buckets wont line up with anything, you will have to make some tabs to mount them. I have some pictures of when I did mine, PM me your email and I will send them your way.

I got one of the tabs to line up with a hole, then one of the tabs lined up over solid sheet metal (where I drilled a hole) then made tabs for the others. The ones I lined up were on the bottom, closest to the middle. The ones I drilled were on the outside edge of the hole, on the outer and upper side. The pics of it I took suck and won't help. I also taped off and painted the valance covered by the grill flat black so it didn't show through the "spokes" of the grill.

Once I figure where to trim, it was mostly between 9:00 and 1:00
about a 1/8". Then trimmed just a little for the bumps in the bucket.

Used the cable clamps to hold it in place for alignment, then welded them.

Funny what kind of life this thread has taken... kind of like playing "telephone" in class when you were a kid... it starts off one way and ends up as something totally different. Funny part is that no one has yet answered the only thing I needed: what is the diameter of the opening for the lights when there are no buckets in them. That was all I needed.
