I'd guess upper NW CT would have some spots, but I'm from Woodstock. There's camping up there in the state forests I think, or at least there's some campgrounds and you can go ride the dirt roads. Bigelow Hollow towards Union from Woodstock Valley is a GREAT quarry reservoir, and there's alot of forest service roads out there..best of all it's a quick shot up 395 from ya. I'm a local so I knew all the backroads and places you could take a truck, but I guess it's kinda hard if you don't know the area..that's why I moved out west! I'd try googling forest service CT and see what public trails actually exist.

trails in CT??? i'll be polite and not laugh out loud...

there's really not much, all i know of is nepaug state forest in canton, and a few private land spots... it's not a really off-road friendly place to live, unfortunately

as far as camping, there's a lot of state forest areas to go, but you're not gonna be able to do any real wheeling

Yale State Forest in Woodstock/Eastford has alot of dirt roads in it you can drive on, but yeah, no public wheeling in CT basically. Unless you want to ride powerlines somewhere.

powerlines can be a blast, just try not to get caught most places

not trying to sound like an @$$hole, but CT really does suck for legal places to offroad. aside from a few dirt roads i haven't really found anything that wasn't private property. luckily i know a few guys who have places i can go but it's more of a party spot, have a bonfire in the field and drive thru the mudpit over in the woods type deals...

all in all it's not a half bad little state, apparently there's some redeeming value here or i'd be living in so cal right now, but it's just not friendly to 4x4s, quads, or anything of that nature. imho the only good decisions our state house have ever made in regards to motorsports is not mandating helmets on motorcycles, and unless the law changes (it's proposed) still allowing passengers to have open containers

welcome to ct by the way

yeah, the low taxes sure are a bonus

although i personally don't get hid bad since i don't own a house and most of my vehicles are old or unregistered. the gas tax ain't so fun, but i'm only minutes from mass...

to stay on topic though, i should mention that i like groton (friend's gf has a place there) cause the beach is convenient, and so are the casinos which i will be visiting to finance future jeep upgrades

i've got enough jeeps and toys right now to keep me broke well into 2014... i don't see a house in my future for a very very long time. unless i marry into money

if i'm gonna live in ct tho, i'll stick to the farmington valley, or maybe go up into the northwest hills a town or two, but woodstock is a haul from here to get to work ever day

If you want to fing excellent wheeling go to northwestern maine. thousands and thousand of acres of private timberland. Most of it owned by Plumcreek. Private hual roads are accessable to public, just have a CB and whatch out for log trucks ( They are pulling triples and will not stop becuase the can't, if you get in the way you will end up squashed like a bug) Bring a shotgun, tools, parts, friends and food. Very remote. lots of fun.
