That is a sweet Ramcharger! It looks to be in super shape. They don't make them like they used to. The engine wait will be worth it. The engine builder I have used is slow as molasses, but both engines just purr. Enjoy the assembly!
And take pictures.

Thanks Kaiserjeeps! Ain't that the truth!

Update, I got new to me connecting rods from AMC-Performance.com. Dan was great and had several sets at a good price.
I delivered them to the machine shop Monday, hoping he got to work on them yesterday.
Will call today!

Good golly its been another month!

Just dropped off the rest of my rotating assembly for balance on Monday.
Was hoping I'd hear from them before now, but as usual I will call them between 2-1000 times a day until I hear from them a week later

Apologies that the only update I have is a complaint

I guess that is more time to clean and prep the engine bay and order install parts/supplies.

If only....
With my limited garage space, I need the engine back so I can put it together and pull what I need off the 360 in the Wagon. Building the 401 will also clear off the shelves of engine parts just waiting to go on.

Then with that done I can pull the 360 engine and sell/get rid of it. Then finally remove the rest of the interior and glass to do the body work to prep for paint.

Waiting on the machine shop has held up the whole process unfortunately.

Heard from the machine shop today, need to replace my harmonic balancer, it was falling apart.

They are going to get one for me and then it should be balance and get it back to me.

Hey Everyone! I'm still alive, and surprisingly STILL do NOT have my engine back from the machine shop!

The update there, was I needed an new flex plate which was no big deal. But then the engine balancer broke and they could not fix it and it has been sent out for repair.
My engine was literally on it to be balanced, it did not damage my engine in any way, the balancer just would not stay powered on.

Really want to get going on this, since now the engine is holding up my project! I have to clear off space on the shelves of engine parts to move forward.

Like Rang always says, "I hate posting without pictures", I will update you with another portion of my life in the next post.

Its probably all well and good my 401 Engine is not ready. As of about 3 weeks ago I crashed my new daily driver into a ditch at 55 MPH. I am unharmed and healthy...but the Ramcharger is not.

Of course I just completed the oil pan gasket to stop a leak which was the last thing I was going to do on this rig. It was so MINT.

[url=https://flic.kr/p/2kUjxRn]

Unfortunately I am not at a place in my life where I have the means to just flat out fix it. Long story short, I got an insurance pay out, bought it back from insurance and began the hunt for a new Ramcharger to swap the drive train of this on into as it when through this unscathed.
AND...
I found one, another 1985 Ramcharger with Tan interior and AC! I have begun the swap as of last weekend.

Love this picture of my old man with the 360 engine on the Tractor we pulled it out of the Ram with!

Sorry this is not a Jeep post but its all I got right now.

Maybe technically its a Jeep post, because if I get the engine back, I will need to work on the Ram instead until its driving.

Whats that saying we all use???
OH YEAH, life gets in the way!

Overall I am sad about the rig, but even more thankful I was not hurt.

Geez, you did a number on that poor thing. Hopefully it all works out quickly for you. The old one sure has a pristine interior!

Yeah, I can say first hand not to run 20 year old tires no matter how good they look.

I had just finished redoing the whole interior, alot of the dash was damaged from a break in when PO had it. And I re-upholstered the seats myself.
Door cards, carpet, and back seat where the only things I had not touched (they were good enough).

Holy smashed eggs Batman!!!

Sooooooo glad you walked away from this!!! Also glad you were able to find a replacement so quickly. The replacement looks pretty solid and straight. Looks like after a few weekends of work you will be back to where you were when this started. You mention 20 year old tires (I am also "driving" on 20 year old tires); what happened? Catastrophic failure? Loss of road contact from rock hard rubber? other?

BTW, you are welcome to post as many picture'less posts as you want, as long as they don't have this kind of carnage!

I notice the bent Ramcharger has old school blue/yellow Oregon plates and the replacement Ramcharger has the newer white W/ a tree Oregon plates. Can you transfer them so you can have the cool old blue/yellow plates? It's also shocking to see the seat back broken on the bent one. How did you walk away from that without broken bones/sprained joints/rattled melon?!

Was the replacement truck complete? How similar is it?

You are not joking about that picture of your dad! Like a Baus!!!!

Thanks Rang I am so glad I walked away from this too
The replacement is actually super straight it honestly in slightly better condition then the one I crashed at least body wise the paint is faded more

The 20 year old tires I think was part of the problem it was kinda the perfect storm
The corner was wet after it had been dry for a long time I had 20 year old tires that were kinda hard and I think my Detroit Locker locked up in the rear which resulted in the back end getting away from me

And yes I will be transferring my classic blue and yellow plates over to the new one haha after I straighten the front one

Yeah the seat is what scared my wife the most those seat do not have a recline function at all they are rigid it folded back like that I think after the second impact after I spun and landed on it and the center console
Like I said I can not be more thankful I was not hurt especially with how it happened I had nothing more then bruises and minimal soreness somebody must be looking out for me

The new truck was complete minus an engine which was perfect for me and one interior door panel haha
It is so close to exactly like my original one it

Wow, glad you are alright! The bent console and seat back are shocking to see!

Great find on the "replacement" as well. Hopefully swapping everything over is pretty painless.
