'72 J4000 at Mecum

I was looking through Mecum's Harrisburg sale this morning and noticed this '72 J4000 so figured I'd mention it

I do too. It should given it's had a frame off restoration but Mecum doesn't have a lot of faith in it or they wouldn't have put it on Thursday but it will be interesting to see.

I was just looking at that. It sold for $25,300 including fees which isn't terrible but given the level of restoration should have brought more but J trucks tend to do very poorly at Mecum.

I was honestly expecting $18-20 given the day it sold and what Mecum usually gets for them.

I just looked back through Mecums past sales of J trucks and it looks like there has been a surprising up tick in sale prices over the past 2 years.

Here are some prices in reverse chronological order
1974 J10 $17,000 (reserve not met)
https://www.mecum.com/lots/FA0722-50...ep-j10-pickup/

'81 J10 $45,000 (reserve not met)
https://www.mecum.com/lots/FA0722-53...ep-j10-pickup/

'80 J20 $27,500
https://www.mecum.com/lots/SC0522-50...ep-j20-pickup/

'75 J10 $34,100
https://www.mecum.com/lots/HA0322-50...ep-j10-pickup/

'81 J10 $35,200
https://www.mecum.com/lots/FL0122-48...ep-j10-pickup/

'83 "Honcho" $46,000 (reserve not met) but it's had an LS conversion and a whole lot of work done to it.
https://www.mecum.com/lots/FL0122-48...honcho-pickup/

'87 J10 $17,600
https://www.mecum.com/lots/FL0122-50...ep-j10-pickup/

'86 J10 $27,500
https://www.mecum.com/lots/CH1021-46...ep-j10-pickup/

So it looks like J trucks have finally made it onto the radar and prices are going up

Brake booster painted the incorrect color (should have been black) clearly prevented higher bids.

I would say it's not a good thing because that's also the reason parts are going sky high for us Jeep addicts

That was clearly the problem! It also has the later Motorcraft ignition and not the Delco points ignition which is another strike against it.

I generally watch Mecum pretty closely because I'm looking for the right Mercedes Ponton for my wife and they have a habit of slipping them in at the last minute but I hadn't been watching the J trucks lately. I can generally estimate what things are going to bring. I play a little game with my wife where I try to spot the bargains of the auction and am usually right with the car and price. I hadn't been watching the J trucks though so was surprised by their rapid rise in value.

I agree they are pricing me right out of a truck but hopefully I won't need any big parts in the future
