Blower motor in the fresh air vent?

This is my first Wagoneer. I thought there is supposed to be 2 fresh air vents operated by cables? My passenger side has one but on the drivers side there appears to be a blower motor of some sort in there. This area was packed with a rodent nest and I was surprised that there was not a flap like the passenger side. Was this blower added for some reason or is it factory on a 77?

Should be a door on each. Each operated by its own cable knob on the dash. No fan. No rat's nest.

Hmm, I'll have to snag a pic and post it. Wonder what they added the blower motor for?

Yep, I'm not smoking crack. There's a blower motor in my driver fresh air vent. The vent housing sleeve thing doesn't even have a place for the flapper. Anybody seen such a thing? I'll have to start flipping switches to see what it actually does.

Thats neat! Surely it blows air into the cabin, otherwise it would be fighting the air trying to blow in when driving down the road.

Guess they wanted air blowing in even when stopped.

Well turns out to be an old power antenna from Radio Shack and now I know why the floor was rusted out. They butchered the vent housing so that there was no chance of sealing. Cleaned a bunch of crap out, removed the antenna and I'll replace with a stock vent assembly.

Pretty crazy somebody went through the trouble to install it. I mean, who needs a power freaking antenna?
