Jeep Gladiator J200 - Project
My first ever project.
I purchased this 1961 or 62 J200 Gladiator. This was one of approx. 500 units built in Australia, Willys Motor factory. So it's RHD which is a bonus (for me). Runs okay, 3 speed manual has the original Tornado engine, 3.8 straight six.
This one was used by the Australian Air force.
Only just fits in my garage.
She needs a fair bit of work, but love conquers all ;-)

Awesome truck
Do you have a plate like this one from Willys Australia ?
If yes can you share it ?
Maybe you have also a Toledo plate
We can help to decode the plates

I notice also that the truck has the rare PTO option and that maybe the transfer case is not original since according to the black sticker yours has a 2WD Low ?

Cool truck! Love the visor. If it has a Dana 20 transfer case, I'd love to see the shift linkage, as I've never seen 2WD Low selectable with a single lever.

Thanks !
I read "J2406 1166 X", not sure for the "X" ?
My understanding is that it's the 166th J200/J2000 assembled in Australia
Only a few hundred J-series were assembled by Willys motors australia
2406 is the usual model code for a J200/J2000, J means "Jeep" of course
"X" could mean 6000 GVW, but normally this denomination was for a later J2000 not for a J200 ?
Since there was a delay between the production start in Toledo and the first assemblies in Australia, and since according to the SN,
it is not one of the very first Australian gladiators, i guess it's actually a '64 or an early '65 (could be confirmed by a US plate on the door jamb)

That looks like a great start. Very complete. And the extra visor looks extra Strine. Nice.

Did you know? Willys is just Willis spelled differently, but pronounced the same. Neither Willy nor his apostrophe are involved.

Really cool! I love those metal transfer case tags fastened to the glove box door. And I thought my original, old Warn locking hub instruction stickers were cool.
