J Truck side trim differences

On my Gladiator going to put the narrow stainless trim on it, like this picture shows.
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...r/DSC01744.jpg

The 87 J20 has the plastic black trim with plastic chrome tape for trim.
That trim looks like trip thru the Zone with crap magent turned on.

http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...bler/jeep1.jpg
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...bler/jeep2.jpg

I know this is factory, as have seen pics in 87 J-Truck brochures.

It's falling off and the chrome "tape" is peeling off on nearly every trim peice.
I've found one 8' bedside NOS but tape is falling off it as well.....so......

Did Jeep use different trim on J-Truck besides the narrow stainless?
If so what years J-Trucks had this trim?

Anyone got any pics of that trim?

.

Trim

Ok i've been thru every picture of J-trucks here and Full Size Jeep page.

Also looked at all 83 & 84 Dealer promo kits with CJ's and J-trucks and 86 & 87 J-truck brochures.

So from what I can tell from pics is there were 2 styles of Trim on J-trucks.

Narrow stainless and the black plastic trim with chrome tape running down each side.

Anyhow, has anyone found "new" stick on trim that looks factory?

Cutting trim

OK get your head out of gudder...LOL. (maybe that's a TX phrase)

anyway.....I'll look at JC Whipme....Thank You.

Ever notice how the ends are cut at a 45 degree angle?

I've been thinking how to replicate that....cut angle.

I don't especially like the cheap trim either, and I though I heard / or saw long ago from someone that Jeep used aluminum trim with black rubber insert, like the Ford trucks used in late 70's.

So...as you all know, I'm an origional paint nut, and if I remove the trim, I doubt paint will match.

Another of my options......I've seen factory pictures of trim that was painted on, and that would probably look better than the JC Whipme looking stuff.

DENNIS

DENNIS I DID NOT MEAN THAT YOUR TRUCK LOOKS CHEAP . I THOUGHT THE J C WITLESS STUFF WAS CHEAP.THE FACTORY JEEP STUFF WOULD BE PROPER FOR YOUR RESTORED LOOK. I LIKE MINE WITHOUT ANY TRIM.

Cheap Trim

Joe, I surely didn't take it that way, and hope anyone else running the plastic trim doesn't think so either.

I dunno why Jeep used the plastic trim, guess it was typical 80's quality.

I managed so far to find an 8' bedside that is NOS and had good storage (part number & picking ticket looks perfect) ......well the chrome tape is falling off it.

So....no going to search the world for something that is poorly made to begin with. Time to find another solution.

Probably not the look you are going for, but the 73 and 74 Pioneer J-trucks had a thin strip of wood to seperate the two-tone paint jobs.

Also not what you're looking for, but if you can't find any good looking chrome trim, a decal looks pretty nice too.

My '77 had this (I'm assuming) factory decal.
