Proving Run

So - I built my motor about two years ago, have taken it on a few longish trips here and there. Still didn't trust it because it's my first motor build.

Decided it's high time to just go out there and figure out the towing bill later.

2100 miles, half of them in 95+ heat. AC doesn't work. On the plus side - no overheating and I never had to stop for a bathroom I was sweating so much.

13 MPG going from 500 feet to 6,000 feet and over mountain passes. Rejetted on the way up and on the way down.

Only had to use my AAA card when I ran out of gas by Hood River - motivation to fix the fuel gauge.

Ran a marathon, went backpacking in the Targhee national forest right after, ate our way through the west, drank beer, and even rode a horse for the first time! It's been a long 15 months - was awesome to cram all the missing stuff into 10 days and am sharing because it's Jeep related.

Also - when you tell Google Maps to avoid highways in Utah. 40 miles of this, no one around. This was the moment I trusted my rig again.

The awesome threads on here made it possible, and being able to search old threads was key. Could not have done it on facebook, even if I were on facebook - am glad you're all around!

Doesn't matter if it's your first or tenth. It's attention to detail that matters.

I guess you built it right. Congrats.

I still get doubt creeping in way back in the corner of my mind when I drive my jeep and I built the motor 15 years ago or so!! And I just drive to work, maybe the store, and putt around on backroads. Awesome that you headed out into actual wilderness with yours! Oftentimes the fear of the unknown makes a trip into an adventure!! Hope it keeps tickin'!

That is a GREAT picture! I am glad you braved the unknown road ahead and took the trip.
