Mechanic Recommendation?

Hey ALl,
If this is the wrong section, please feel free to move and accept my apologies. I am looking for someone in this area who can do some general mechanic work on my '84. I had visions of going diesel but the cost scared me away. At this point, I want to get all my CA emissions stuff removed and maybe have a nice tune up done and a few other odds and ends. Someone suggested Z&M Jeeps and I spoke with Zach who seems like a great guy. The only problem is that he is four hours away. Shipping/car rental one-way/etc. is a lot of money just to get the Jeep there and back. I would LOVE to use him (and may still) but would prefer to either find a cheap way to get the Waggy out there or find someone more local.

If you have any suggestions, I'dl love to hear them. Thanks!

4 hour drive? Heck that's only 12 hrs by bus or 36 by train.

I've never actually dealt with these guys, so maybe someone else here has. I was in there a while back. I think I was looking at a used Jeep. Anyway, an old Jeep specialist not too far from you:

Good luck

Thanks, I gave them a call but they declined to work on it. Unless someone has a closer place, I'll have to figure out a way to get it to Z&M...

They probably declined for liability reasons? A good deal of shops won't remove emissions equipment.
Yanking all of it isn't hard and can be tackled by pretty much anyone.
Several threads on here about removing all the stuff.

Save your transport $$ buy some tools (if needed), and parts for the Jeep.

If you get stuck or have questions start a thread.

FYI, here's a thread from a few years ago. Talks about Lou's and some others in the area. I posted in it - but the place I mention is no longer in business:
