I'll ask this hypothetical question since someone else already brought up the "F" word. I've seen posts about GM and Dodge diesel conversions, but will a Ford 6.9 fit? My '84 pickup probably only has two or three years until it rusts away to scrap, and then I'll need to use the engine and rear d60 in something, so why not a trail Wag? If it would fit, what would I need to change/adapt. The truck has a 3-speed automatic and a Borg Warner t-case, but I don't even know what they are or if they are worth salvaging. I'm just looking into feasibility and cost here, for future reference, but thanks for any info.

The early Fords were 6.9, then upped to 7.3. With the 7.3, there is the Powerstroke (94-later) and the non-powerstroke (1994 and earlier). IIRC, the 6.9/7.3 are longer/wider than the GM 6.2/6.5. The GM engines are tight, so I would imagine that the Ford would be even tighter.

Okay, I guess I'll just have to get out the tape measure and check dimensions. But IF it will physically fit, what would be needed as far as tranny, t-case, axles, etc. to make the switch? If I did this with my project rig I would probably be swapping axles and doing soa anyway, and I'm perfectly willing to cut sheetmetal if needed.

With a big enough lever you can make any thing fit case in point you ever see a 460 stuffed into a pinto HEHEHE. How good is the frame on your ford the way to go if the ford frame is good is to put you jeep body on it

Nah, it has the crappy IFS, and a longer wheelbase than a Grand Wag. I don't know if the trans and t-case in it are strong or not, or if something else would be better. Someone please tell me what a 3-speed automatic in an '84 Ford would be, and also the Borg Warner case. It is a driver's drop like the Wag, but I would probably be replacing the front axle, so either side is possible, depending on what would work best.
