What's this and how do you check it?

I have this electronic part and don't know what it's for. Also, how do you check it to see if it's good?

Then, this was hooked into the radio. Don't know it's function or how to check it either.

Robert the first picture is of an Autolite ignition module.
The second is a filter for your car stereo. The filter would have been installed to get rid of noise from ignition or your alternator.

You can plug in the ignition module and see if your Jeep starts. Be gentle with the plugs they can be brittle.

If it don't start, then it's bad.

This is going to come off as rude, and I dont mean for it to be, but are you being serious asking about the ignition module?

His Jeep is LS powered and came with a bunch of extra parts. So many of us take some of this as second nature while he's never seen any of it before.

Gotcha! That makes perfect sense. Being a member since 2011 I knew he wouldve had to replace that thing at least once!

I didnt know what it was when I first got an fsj either. It was the first thing to cause issues though.

On my Jeeps that is the first thing I pull out and replace it with an HEI. Salvaging the FSJs I see 90% of them with melted module material on the fender. Its a very common failure

If you really want to test it, most AutoZones have a tester that works on the Prestolite and Duraspark ignition modules.

He built his Jeep from the ground up. Total frame off. No 2 bolts were together when he started. Go check his build thread before you throw any disrespect his way. He is smart and very knowledgeable. You just wish you could do what he has done.

If this was directed towards me then Im sorry you took it the wrong way. I was just curious how he wouldve had a Jeep (assuming such since hes been a member since 2011) and that hadnt went bad yet. Like I said, I didnt know what that was when I first purchased my Jeep but it was the first thing to fail on my Jeep, so I was forced to figure out what it was.

And no, Im perfectly content with my current knowledge..
