Charcoal Canister MIA after engine rebuild

Hey everyone, Well the engine rebuild went well, and after the install, and testing etc, we were putting the finishing touches on the engine compartment. I went through every bin, and I am unable to locate the charcoal canister or it's bracket. I fear it may have ended up in one of the bins that were donated to the local boneyard. So other than venting of the fuel tank, how bad off am I?

Oh yeah, the motor is not stock anymore. No emissions, only a PCV. New manifold, carb, MSD ignition, etc etc. Not stock but not outrageous.

I am not sure how critical the canister is, so I thought I would reach out to people smarter than I.

Be good, and keep it safe all.

I haven't ran one since 2007. Not a big deal. There may be a slight fuel smell if you park the vehicle in the garage but I hardly notice.

Will run fine, but X2 about fuel smell. If I park in the garage it is fairly strong. So much so that I am going to retrofit a charcoal canister.

So in looking at the OEM vacuum diagram, I see that canister is looking for a vacuum line into the intake. I assume the idea here is to pull those vapors when driving, and burn them. Think I might have an available 1/8 NPT on my intake that I can use. The line to fuel tank splits into 2 lines, I believe the other vents the trans as well. But I could be wrong.

The trans vents to atmosphere. The fuel tank and carb bowl vents to the canister. Under engine load the canister vents to the engine and the trapped vapors are burned. Since you have an aftermarket carb just plug the port on the intake and leave the vent line from the fuel tank open to vent. Maybe install one of those vent caps on it like the front and rear diffs use
