No turn signals, loose parts, doesn't cancel.

Well, it HAD turn signals before we tore out the rear window motor and wires. But now it doesn't. They didn't cancel when they were working and when I took the steering wheel off, there was a plastic part laying in the bottom of the inside area that seems to be broken but I can't tell where it came from. So I got pics. Ideas?

I am going to dump a bunch of contact cleaner in there also.

I bet that is the ratcheting "catch" that does the canceling, and thus why it didn't cancel since it was boken. But you probably already figured that out.

My tsm for 73 shows the cam plate located behind the switch piece that is shown in your pic (with all the wires). I think if you disassemble further, you might find where that piece broke off from. The cam plate is just a plate looking thing with a dowel piece on the back side. If you've never disassembled that far (I haven't), do a little research since it looks kinda tricky as to how everything goes together and getting the lock plate snap ring off is supposed to be a PITA without the special tool. Hope this helps.

Yup. That's fingers for the switch. Same style switch use throughout the industry. Question will be finding one for your year and model. Might be common might be not.

Often the wires have to be disconnected at the bottom of the column and if so plan ahead to fish the new ones back down.

Be real careful disconnecting the column connectors. If there is just one, then it may have the power feed to the key switch. or it may just be for the turn signal and horn.

I do not believe the whole assembly is available any longer?

That napa part looks different than mine. Is that just a piece of it ? Maybe having non cancelling turn signals is a new things to get use to....this looks tough. Anyone got any videos on someone doing it ? I couldnt find anything on a search.

Looks like the other "finger" is broke off too. Looking at that pic, you can see the other piece on the bottom behind some stuff.

So I am guessing the napa part is what it is suppose to look like and as long as I fish the wires down the column I can have turn signals that cancel once again. This is probably worth doing at some point. I'll get that part ordered.

I guess maybe I am missing something. Mine has 2 holes where the mounting screws go through it to hold it in place. This part doesnt have those. How does it mount ?

I don't know if the columns changed after '72/73. If yours is the same as 74 and later columns, there is some writeups in the tech section here on the disassembly of them. I think they are gm style columns? Maybe someone here knows for sure.

This is a copy and paste from rock auto on the Standard brand turn signal cam listed for the 70 wagoneer (basically looks the same as the echlin listed above) and what other vehicles it fits. If it is an earlier style gm column which it appears to be by this list, then maybe you might find some more info or maybe a video on the disassembly from various gm forums or ford. The part for 74 and up columns looks way different, so I'm guessing the later ones arent like yours at all.

HEY Backroadin.

This helped me a ton. I found a video on the Jeepster which led me to the parts supplier that has the entire assembly.

And now the new turn signal cam doesn't always make a connection. Time to buy another one and do it all over again......awesome....just awesome.
