heater controls, vacuum ball?

i happily tore the vac ball out of the jeep for the motor swap, but now i seem to remember something about the vac ball being used not only for the q-trac e-drive but also the heater controls (floor/vent/defrost). so do i need this stupid little ball or can i use another vacuum source (like off the manifold)?

Yes, you are correct about the ball being used for the heater. I'm not sure if you can by-pass it though as it may have some regulator type function. Hook the vacuum right up to the motor and you might have the fastest closing heater flaps in america.

Or it could be the Jeeps gall bladder and not really be all that important after all.

Put it back in if you can, it provides consistent vacuum unlike the port on the manifold. Without it, you vac controlled devices will loose vacuum when the engine is high load or WOT.

There's only two connections, one from the manifold and one to go to your accessories.

I ran my heater controls off manifold. Every stop sign the heater stopped working till I pulled vacuum. Took me three day to find the sound under the dash cause by the heater valves closing and opening as I drove. The heater vacuum lne goes from the canister over to the hole above year wiring harness connection and then to the left side of your push button heater control. A real pain in the *** to reach with the dash gauges in. Have fun. Like your build up!!!
