After months of not being able to get the defroster to come on, suddenly something shifted, and now the heat only comes out of the defroster vents. This is for the '83 Wag.

Other symptoms are that the defroster button will not remain depressed like the heater button. But it did that long before whatever switched over under the dash.

I don't know anything about this vacuum system. Where should I be looking?

Incidentally, this all worked before my mechanic yanked the gauge assembly about 3 months ago to repair the smoking dashboard problem. Did he pull a vacuum hose loose? If so, where?

sure sounds like a loose vacuum hose, happy hunting. hows the rear axle project?

yep, I'd say vacumn leak too.

Rear axle's all done. I hope.

Put 25 miles on it today & the low rumble is all gone. Yippee!

I'll see how long it holds together. I'm hoping to tow a '52 New Yorker on a flatbed over this weekend, so I guess I'll give it a workout right away.
