Interior spare tire mount

I found a few threads about this but a lot of the pictures and links weren't working.

Does anybody have any ideas for mounting a stock size spare inside a Wagoneer? I know there were a couple made for this purpose but they're pretty unobtanium. So if anybody has any ideas let me know. I'm not the best with coming up with this kind of thing.

Thanks!

Am I crazy or is this a cheap and simple solution for mounting your spare inside?

Well

I don't think 6" is long enough. A little lightweight for your needs. It would have to have some support bracing maybe some angle iron if the bolt is long enough. You could probably fabricate something similar with all thread angle iron & a good cutting set up.

This would be a much better start but $$$$$. Just to get an idea still there would need to be bracing. Now if you were going to lay it down it would need as much fabrication & you could Cha-ching $$ really spend some bucks. next link These might be found a little cheaper or have some one copy.

K mart Idea 3 We not as Kamart as yours. Likely very little modifications to make it work vertical.

If you can't make it better why waste your time. No use repeating the orignal mistakes. I'm to old to push it that's why.

My spare is just a stock 15" rim with a 235/75/15 tire. I'd place it so that the bottom of the tire is resting on the wheel hub and maybe put a block under the unsupported part. It would literally be holding it in place not necessarily supporting the weight.

You really think it would be too short to poke through the rim? I guess I should measure it.

Stock setup…this one is actually sitting in my garage someplace.
Funny that on google images it was the first one that showed up.
Out of a '77 Cherokee, maybe I should start making these?

Hmmm…dunno.
Let me dig it out and take a closer look @ it.
Like I said, maybe it's worth making some of 'em?
Cost would be fairly cheap…there isn't much too it IIRC.

Well let me know. I'd definitely buy one from you. It's the last piece in my gas tank relocation puzzle I've been working on.

The one in my Chero is a bar that bolts to the floor and the body below the window and my 31 incher just rubs the headliner. Bar does not go above the glass at all. Don't know the history on it, was there when I got the rig. Might have been an in-bed mount for a pick-up of one make or another back when.

here's a picture of the interior tire carrier that was optional for awhile and one that I've been making on top.

Both the triangle one in the post above, and the post style were available from Jeep as accessories at one time. Pretty sure the post style had a brace that went behind the upper mount point behind the sheet metal.

I could make one but I'm no good with a welder. Maybe I could bolt something together. Thanks for the ideas.

That accurately describes the dealer installed, inside tire mount, that I had put in my brand new 79 Cherokee S four door, back in the day.
