Carb for 401 ci

I took my 78 Wagoneer into THE Boise Carb shop to have it rebuilt. The tech said that the factory carb on that engine was the worst carb ever built. He would rebuild it but.... I should think about another carb.
Are there Holley, Edelbrock or Summit (or other) carbs that will bolt to the factory manifold?

I also have a 1978 with a 401. I agree with your carb guy! I rebuilt my 4350 and it still was awful. Got the Summit 600 cfm vac secondary elec choke. I do have to also get an adaptor. The 1978 spread bore pattern is a freak. Not like a quadrajet. I really like the new carb.definitely recommend.

Great info and thank you. All you needed was an adapter? Did you get that from Summit as well?

Would it be possible to get that part numbers if possible?

The MC 4350 is a great carb until it isn't. They tend to warp with age. Experience varies.

TransDapt 2199 will adapt a square bore 4bbl to the Ford & Jeep spread bore pattern intake.

Carb question

I'm retired but work P/T at an auto parts store and get a great discount. Can you recommend a Holley or Edelbrock carb? I'm not opposed to buying the Summit (as long as I get the correct one) but if the Summit carb is based on a Holley or Edelbrock and I can save a dollar, why not? I'm looking for a "fuel economy" carb, LOL, for this beast of a Jeep.
BTW, Thanks for all your help. I'm delighted with the responses.

Will I need a throttle linkage kit with that?

I did not need a linkage kit. Just the adaptor. It was a straightforward bolt on.Modify fuel line with piece of rubber line and fire that baby up
