Well, I do have the brackets that are still bolted to a front 3 piece bumper but I don't know if there's any difference between a Wagoneer and your truck. Maybe someone can chime in.

A lot of older rigs have wider front axles than the rear. According to a chart I just saw in the internet....'76-91 Wagoneer, '80+ Cher frnt-59.4" rr-57.8"
My guess is they didn't shorten the axle....
