np 205 transfer case question
There I'm again with questions about the np205 transfer case.

I know a np205 for sale ,it came from a 1962 dodge w300
It's a divorced transfer case with also still a pto on it.

Now is my question ,is it possible and wise to have this transfer case machined so it could fit with a adapter behind a nv4500 transmission? (Making it a married setup)
Or better to find a transfer case that already is a married one!?
Finding a np205 or any transfer case is a adventure over here in Holland:rolleyes:

If its a 1962, it is most likely not a NP205 but a NP201/202 or Dana 24. The D24 isnt as good as the NP205/ runs hot on the highway.
Having a short drive shaft made would be cheaper than having it machined. Also, Ebay has NP205's in all flavors. Im not sure what it would cost to have it Imported/shipped.

the np205 did not exist yet in 1962, but if you need a passenger side drop 205 it would have to be from a dodge or international....drivers side,ford..

70's GM also used 205's, passenger side drop. Blazer's, 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks with T350 and sticks. The one tons had the T400's. Were married units. If you found one with the 400, swap out the guts to the AMC 400 housing.

Never mind on the 400.... I see you're staying with a stick.
There used to be an adapter out to add a low range unit from a 203 full time case to the 205 as a doubler to end up with a 4:1 low range, and still keep the 2:1 of the 205. The 20 and 205 are basically the same low range, just the 205 is more bullet proof. Another option might be a 300 from a CJ. 2.62:1 low, gear drive.

Thanks for the reply!

I ended up with finding a empty np205 housing and swapped the internals from the divorced into that.
Together with a adapter plate and gear with bigger bearing from Advance Adapters it's coming together as a nice package.

I could have gone for the Dana 300 transfer case ,but want to keep that for future use in the cj5 project.

Will a Dana 300 from a CJ 7 bolt up to the transmission in a 1985 J-10?

I used a 1995 Chevy nv4500 to a Chevy 1990 np205 . They bought have 32 splines input and output .all you will need is the round style case adapter From advanced adapters 99.00$ Do you have a nv4500 an if so what year and make
