    So long story short I fabbed up some bolt on brackets and installed some limiting chains on the front of a 'cruiser.

    I know you are supposed to use straps not chains because straps will 'give' a little rather than 'jolt' like chains will. Using chains because we are leaving for a trip to the sand dunes tomorrow and we simply cannot locate any straps locally, so we must use what we have on hand.

    Just wondering if anyone has any real world experience with using limiting chains rather than straps?

    Plenty of rigs have used chain center limit devices before, dont think you will be hurting anything. They just wont give

      I used to run one on my old waggy, only noticed it at higher speeds in the whoops.

        If you are going at speed in the dunes, make sure they are not too short. Or you will find yourself using them at the wrong times.

          I thought I would answer my own question.

          Sorry that this isn't FSJ tech, but none the less, it does apply.

          Limiting chains work fine. My buddie's landcruiser weights in at over 6k lbs and he took jumps like this ALL DAY at 50MPH with 6 passengers with no problems.

          The limiting chains held up great and believe me, they were WELL used all weekend. They clank around a little, but you can't hear it from the inside of the truck.

            Got a pic of how you mounted them? Also what grade chain you running? I was thinking about just plating a small section of frame and bolting a chain to that, or a couple simple tabs on either end.

              Well this was on a landcruiser, not a FSJ, so the mounting is pretty much irrelevant on here. I actually used factory bolt holes on both the lower control arm and underneath the frame. Toyota made adding limiting straps/chains very, very easy on a 'cruiser.
