Putting GW doors on a J truck

I've got a pair of doors from an 85 GW to put on my truck so I can have power locks and windows. I couldn't pull any of the wiring from under the dash of the GW so I'm going to have to figure that out...getting power won't be the issue, but figuring out what wires left on the doors do what will be. Is there an easy wiring diagram for the brain dead to use to figure this out or am I going to have to drink 4 triple shot cappucinos and try and figure out the wiring on the Ol Jeep site.

You shouldn't have to replace the doors, just the guts. The glass is different on the electric compared to the manual. I used the wiring diagrams to figure out what wire color went to what motor/ solenoid. The switches basically reverse the polarity to make the DC motors go forwards and backwards. I had everything on the bench and hooked up a battery to the red positive and black negative and then trail and error to see what made what do what.
IIRC from the drivers door to the cab, there is one red positive, one black negative, a green and white (to the passenger door window), and three smaller wires (can't remember the colors) for the passenger side mirror. I haven't gotten around to doing the passenger side door, yet, but I think it also has it's own power and ground wire. I hope this helps

if you want to paint the door, sure...

Ah, I see you have an '82 so there may not be the "door latch issue".

No problem there...the truck is primer gray/patina'd silver anyway

Latches would be the same...82 and 85.

Sure does seem easier to just change out the whole door unless I'm missing something about the job.

Much easier to swap the doors, only thing to worry about (aside from the alignment) would be the electrical connections and if you have to cut any wires.

I may have a line a set of doors from a 1986GW that I'd like to swap onto my 1980 J10 (power windows in the Junkyard Dog would be nice).

Any issues with that? Will they fit?

Doors will fit...it is actually easier to just swap the doors.
Those wing windows are a real PITA to remove.

Which GW doors fir the 78' J20's...?

I have read through multiple threads, but no one really went into detail of which doors works on what years... I have a 78 J20 and would love to have power windows and door locks but I have read the latches change after a certain year, so I am not sure which year of GW to look for to start the process... Any help would be greatly appreciated.... If I can't find a door swap, then I will have to look for the individual kits. I did find a company in Portland OR. called Gilbertson's Machine Shop I think, and they were advertising window kits that work, so I will give them a call and see whats up on that aspect... The doors locks on the other hand, I did not come across any that actually stated they will work in a J20 but I will call around on that too.

It was mid-'78 I think. You just have to look and see--if there are two bolts on the latch plate then it's the late one, if it has three, it's the early one. The early ones are usually body color; the other ones are usually a gold color regardless of the body color.

I don't know how else to explain it w/o pictures.
