229 speedo gear

The 229 that was in my '88 exploded and I swap in another I had laying around. Now the speedo is WAY off. When I'm doing 65mph, the speedo is reading 80.

How hard is it to take the gears out of the 229 and swap them. Thats the only thing that has been changed and the old one was reading correct. Are there springs, balls and unobtainium parts that will fly out to attack me, or is it just a simple swap?

Clean around the hole really well, unbolt it, pull it straight up so you can keep an eye on it's position in the case and reinstall the new one in the same orientation it was in, in it's old case.
