Whenever my tank is full or near full I have a gas leak coming from somewhere on top of the tank. Is there a vent on the top thats come loose, or have I rubbed a hole in it?

IIRC theres 2 or 3 lines (depending on year) coming out of the top. Theres a short piece of rubber line connecting them to the hard lines that run down the frame.Jeff

What year is your J? If it has a plastic tank, it most likely has a crack in it where the side rounds over to the top. Mine cracked on the driveshaft side, where the side meets the top, in the middle. Look for gas stains too. If you're lucky it's just a leaky hose.

Ditto - my 80 cracked right where JR said his is cracked. I stop-drilled a hole at the bottom end of the crack, sanded the whole area, and smeared marine sealant all over the area and into the crack (tank near empty at the time). Mine's an 82 and the hoses come out the side. It must be cracked since it's coming from up top. If the weather would warm up I'd drop it. I need to get my gauge working anyway.Comment
