I am not sure if this is going to help or not but I did some google searching and on this Bronco message board they say their steering box is 36 spline. Your 31 spline shaft might work with this joint. It might be worth looking into getting a bronco rag joint?

Fellas, thanks so much for all the help. Definitely appreciated. I've decided I'm gonna save us a bunch of heartache and just take the J-20 box back.

We've gotta have this truck to ready to roll out of here by Friday for the axle rebuild.

We'll pick one up for a J-10 and call it done.

Yeah, for $279 -vs- $12 though.

I was doing that yesterday, maybe if you found one prior to '77, two that I checked from '79 and '82 (a C30 &C20) were the same as the later year Jeeps. Somebody here on the forum must be parting an early Jeep though...

I ran into a problem like this when I swaped in my steering box. Its the large piston J20 style. But I think mine came off a hummer or something. Got it off ebay, rebuilt. But it had larger splines than my old box, my old rag joint coupler would not fit. Same problem your haveing. I ended up haveing to buy a U-joint at a local speed shop and had it welded to the steering shaft after I cut off the old rag joint part.

    No such luck!

The shaft is larger on the new J-20 box, and the shear pin is larger as well. SO,...no go!

Also there are only 17 splines on that rag joint flange, but more on the input it came off of, should be ~25.

Then, what did you mic that 31 spliner at, 0.625 or what?
    Mic'd @ .602

Spline count on the original shaft is 25

I will see if the pin will drive out. The splined sections appear to be of the same dimensions on the shaft
