  • Fan shroud orientation?

This is going to be a dumb question but here I go anyway haha. With there finally being a reproduction fan shroud being made I picked one up. My 77 J10 with an amc360 has never had a shroud. I have an aftermarket aluminum radiator that has the same hose locations as original (Upper hose is on upper passenger side, lower hose is on lower driver side and is using stock hoses.

I think I will have to remove the upper hose to position the shroud correctly but what I can figure out its which way the shroud mounts. I cant find any photos either. Does anyone know which way this mounts, or even better have photos of their shroud mounted?: https://teamgrandwagoneer.com/fan-shroud-v8-1974-1991/

I am assuming the flat side with the two little bumpers mounts against the radiator, but that puts what looks like the knockout for the lower hose on the wrong side? Is that round knock out for something else? Thanks for the help and apologies for the dumb question haha.

no need to apologize for a question

    NO ONE KNOWS EVERYTHING

    yes, to me,....
looks like round bumpers face radiator

because the OEM and aftermarket aluminum shrouds
have the rounded semi circular top center part of the shroud in the center
    flat against radiator

then the overhang is toward engine,...
to create the vacuum/suction or "pull" you need to pull air thru the radiator towards engine

and it looks like the part is made backwards if I am seeing the photo clearly
( no suprise considering the seller )

BJs has a nice aluminum replacement
I know that is late info for you,....

    let us know what happens

maybe someone who knows more will chime in,...

    post some pics if possible

Ok I figured it out. The bottom side being rounded was throwing me off. But I got it on and it fits really well. Had to drain radiator a little, remove the upper hose and everything went in easy. Definitely an upgrade. And I must say the engine bay is looking dialed, haha.

Did you do a side by side comparison of the two before you installed the new one? It's a little hard to tell how the new one compares to the old but it looks really good! Did the mounting holes line up with holes in the radiator support? What material is it made from?

Correction- it just needed a water pump!

I never had the original shroud so I had nothing to compare to. Yup the holes lined right up and as super easy to put on once I figured out the orientation. It's made from a Fiber Reinforced Thermoset Composite Material apparently. Seems like a good quality shroud for what it is.

Where did you get this shroud? Source? Price? Thanks

There's a link in the first post.

Be aware that that company has a bit of a bad reputation. Lotsa folks have had trouble with them. You can read the stories in the Vendor Forum.

Seems that if things go well they're fine. If not they're really bad.

Check https://www.bjsoffroad.com/. If BJ's has it they're a much better choice.

I agree I try to use BJ's when I can but I have been lucky enough to never have issues with TGW. I believe BJ's has started selling this same shroud now.
