Guys, I need a little advice here. My PSP went bad and I need to buy a new one. It seems, according to various e-shop catalogs, that there were some changes and the break year was 78/79. My Jeep is 78, but the engine is from 81 J10 (at least I was told so). I cant contact the previous owner, who did the swap so I dont know if he kept the accesories from the old engine or swapped the whole thing in... Is there a way how to tell what pump do I need? I need to order the right one, shipping alone is over 70$.. Thank you kindly. Marty

Power steering pump - help

Difference is simply the hose fitting connections.
Earlier are flare fittings, later is metric o-ring.
Disconnect your high pressure line and that will tell you.
However the fitting that the hose fitting screws into unscrews from the pump, so even if you got the wrong one you could still reuse it and wouldn't matter which one you get.Tony

Marty,
Go with the pump from a '77 rig with a 401 if you are thinking about running tires in the 33" or larger size.
It's the same pump as a mid 70's Caddy, slightly higher pressure which helps move big tires.
Changing the fitting if needed is easy.2000 Infinity QX4, 3.3L, MPFI, 4 speed auto, 2 speed Nissan tcase, Unibody, IFS front, 4 link rear solid axle with 255-70/16s

Agree
You can buy the pumps with both fittings & swap if needed. I know the last one I bought from Napa had the O ring one inside the box so I could use it on newer or older models.
check this out. One bad pump also. great for big tires & hydro boost

If you can't make it better why waste your time. No use repeating the orignal mistakes. I'm to old to push it that's why.
