  • What's an Idle Speed Control Motor Relay??

The following is listed under Team Wagoneer

"Idle Speed Control Motor Relay OEM GW 1984-1990
This Is A Factory Original Fuse Block Relay. This Specific Relay Is For The Idle Speed Control Motor That Plugs Into The Carburetor Which Controls The Idle When The A/C Or Defroster Is Turned On The Raise The Idle So That The Engine Does Not Die Out Under The Load Of The A/C Compressor Kicking On. This Relay Is Commonly Overlooked Because Most Mechanics Try To Change The Adjustments To The Carburetor Which Makes Mileage Worse & Performance Flat. This Relay Is Correct & Will Fit All Jeep Grand Wagoneers & Jeep J-10 & J-20 Pick Up Trucks From 1984-1990. This Relay Just Plugs Right Into The Fuse Block In Seconds. OEM PART# 8350704"

Very well. Question is: WHAT "Speed control motor that plugs into the carburetor." ?? Never seen it, never heard of it.

I may have heard about something like this, but sticking a relay in the fuse box without a solenoid on the carb, or an associated wire, won't do anything. I have never seen a wire for this.
If at first you don't succeed, use a bigger hammer.

The only idle control solenoid I know of is the one bolted to the left front of the carb. All it does is extend to set your curb idle when the key is on, and retract to help shut off the motor without run on when the key is turned off.

As far as I know it doesn't do anything else.

I also don't think there is a relay for it. I haven't noticed one on my 86.

I've never seen one of those on an OEM FSJ. I think they're confused with the XJ Jeeps. That's what happens when a retailer "thinks" they are FSJ specialists when in reality they just tailor their web storefront to look like they are an FSJ-only seller. They are not. They sell stuff for lots of different vehicles.

I just looked at their website. What they are talking about is only for the baby wags with the GM 2.8L V6. So 1984-86 XJ's. And you can get a relay from the Shack for only a few bucks that will work. Again, overcharging because it is for a Jeep.

Tnx for your alert explanation. Geez, for a while thought I back-slid into newbie-land...which does happen every few years of course.

But they erroneously listed it for "84-90 GW", which threw me a curve.

Makes sense now: Not enough idle HP to maintain rpm when the AC kicks in....on mini-motors.
