I know, it's not the weekend yet, but we finally got our snow/slick roads (I've been hoping for this for a couple of weeks now). Only problem was seeing past the snow tonight--maybe I'll mount some LEDs on the front bumper for some lower light sources...nah I'm not gonna waste my time and money.
Anyway, remembering why I love these things--they're incredible winter machines.

I drove it... a bit less than 400 miles... almost flawless as it turned past 229Kmiles, except for more rust discovered on the hood... and the battery hold down area... all fixed.
Almost a 10 footer, and yes there is a hole on the front of the passenger's side of the tip of the hood!
and I am not getting younger either... will I buy a toyota 4 runner?Last edited by letank; 11-09-2022, 06:47 PM.

Yes as I am not getting younger, the truck is also getting older, and I really really want to have it running and drive-able, before life gets in the way......like happened to the PO :/
So much more to do after it sat cooking for 18 years in the Southern AZ desert!

Installed new 100 amp alternator.
Verified all vapor & fuel lines from gas tank and trans case vent.
Installed fuel tank/skid plate with all new rubber lines & fill hoses from BJ's, and reconnected the driveshaft to rear yoke.
Edit - Thanks Mongo228 & neighbor Dana for the help
Found the old seeping rubber lines for add on trans cooler lines were not seeping anymore. Got the truck running a few weeks back, and revved it up in "N" to about 2500 rpm, with an explosion of trans fluid all over the front of the rig, a little on the house, and just inside garage. UGH.....what a mess :/
Got the shovel out and put some good AZ desert dirt on it for soak, to keep the 1/2 gallon or so of trans fluid, from running out to the street.
Replaced trans cooler rubber lines
Pulled dash cluster to trouble shoot temp and fuel gauge issues.
Tested wiring on temp gauge for power, to see why it does not work.
You were BUSY !!

Saturday I spend some time polishing two of the '76 slots I got for it, now those look really good. Yesterday I worked another slot (speaking of those, I managed to break one drill bit and bend another trying to get rid of the old busted screws in there--any ideas?)(seems to be just one per wheel that's being problematic). Then I went out and washed it, then vacuumed it, then cleaned all of the door jams and surfaces on the inside (not the headliner or the seat covers, but everything else). Nice and clean again

Did more rust removal and Antirust preparation on the inside areas of the 73' j4000 cab.
Also test fitted the replacement roof that I got from Levelhead in Canada.
Things look promising if I may say that!

Did not much on the jeep
Only bought a second hand front windshield and a electric window system for converting the right side door of the j4000
The rest of my time goes to the 99 dodge ram 2500 sadly!
Last weekend we installed a new tapped cover gasket on the 24 valve Cummins because the oil leakage went from bad to worse.
After that was tackled the automatic transmission pan started leaking.
Well we thought it was the pan , but it would not stop with leaking after installing it with a new gasket.
After closer inspection we found out the overdrive unit had a crack and also found out that the transmission mount separated from the rubber.
Looking further we found also the rear u-joint from the drive shaft was shot.
The plus side of all this is that I have a very low mileage 47re 2wd transmission in stock and also a overdrive unit with housing.
When ever the time was there the plan was to convert the low mileage 2wd into a 4x4 and replace the worn out and slipping transmission with that.
Well now is that moment!
So let's hear how your hot weekend is going!?

In my dreams.....I traveled the country, stopping by to meet other FSJ members, and we had a good time talking about our trucks and what it took to get them where they are
I cleaned the inside of the new painted doors from dust and brushed them with owatrol in all nooks and crannies and some areas inside of the doors that didn't got good coverage with paint to make them durable as possible.
Also the new 13' flywheel for the 12 valve Cummins with nv4500 needed some more work on the hole for input shaft and pilot bushing ,so had that dropped off at the shop after taking measurements for dept.
The new painted frame and fresh drive train is coming together nicely!

Worked some more on the 73 j4000 roof section and welded up some small pin holes and gaps on the brow.
It's ready now to drop it off at the sand blaster.
I'm really hoping that there are not to much extra holes appear when it's blasted and in welding primer.

I dug in the shop trying to find parts I have had stored. Realized the majority is buried under 3 years worth of stuff, LOL! Will have to wait for kids to claim their property and clean shop up to get to parts.

I drove mine...it hasn't been getting much road time this summer. After driving other stuff I'd somehow forgotten how nice this one is...quiet, plenty of power, a feeling like you can go anywhere, and just a very solid all around driver. These Waggys are awesome
Oh, and it was even better because with the new bushings and the steering adjusted, it drives like a normal car AND the steering wheel is straight when you're driving in a straight line...well close enough to straight now. It's not pointed 80 degrees to the left anymore
Hope everyone had a good holiday weekend! Well, those in the US...I don't suppose people outside the US states and territories were celebrating too much. But Canada got their day on the 1st.
