TFI with CA smog

Anybody running the TFI upgrade on their CA smog legal rigs? I am wondering if it will cause a fail of a visual inspection. Not TBI fuel injection kit,.... TFI ignition.

If it isn't CARB approved it'll fail.

Depends on the tech/shop.
But yes it will fail if you don't have the Howell EO sticker.
You can go to a smog referee and get TBI "legal"

Edit... I meant TFI ignition upgrade. not TBI fuel injection. Does anyone know if a TFI upgrade will cause a CA smog failure??

I have passed with the 85 for the last 12 or 14 years. One time (over 10 years ago) the tech said that he could fail me for having an electric fuel pump.

What means TFI?

If you change your post after it's been responded to it's nice if you make a note of the change.

If you change your post after it's been responded to it's nice if you make a note of the change. That way the responder doesn't look like a knuckle head. I can do that on my own.

Yeah, I had a buddy with a 77 and he got through smog with a TFI on it. The thing is, smog techs never see these rigs anymore. So if your TFI look stock and looks like it has been there a while, they can't really tell the difference.
