  • Electric fuel pump

    1. Can anyone recommend what brand electric fuel pump they put in their Wagoneer? Also did it come with the blocking plate?

    2. Replace melting ignition module with OE or HEI? What are the benefits?

Tired of fuel issues, rebuilt carb and same problem! Pour gas in carb and runs great. Let it sit for hours and repeat problem.
The Ignition mudule has been melted for years, but not sure if its a problem.

Love my HEI but dont go cheap there are alot of cheap Dizzy that will toast your cam gears

cheapest option will be to put the duraspark mod back on there

Msd 6a, tfi conversion, holly fuel pump. Works great. Go ahead and drop the tank, clean it and install a new sending unit. Then you are all good.

It's the gear that comes with all the HEI's that toast your cam gear. You can use the cheap HEI's, just use your old gear off your points dizzy.

I used a Carter electrical pump on one of my Jeeps. I left the old manual pump in the motor.

With a minor bit of file work a blocking plate for a BB Chev(454) will work.

@mdcptman - how and where is your pump mounted? I bought one but it is still sitting on a shelf in the garage. Got tired head trying to find the best spot and decided to work on other stuff.

                    Funny....

depending on year, for the early with passenger side drop, block off plate from summit or your local parts store

for the driver side drop, I tried the rear by the pumpkin, but it was a drag to debug when something happened, so I went up front, you can see the bracket under the steering column

X2..I used a SB Chevy blocking plate [$9] with Holley Red pump--a great up grade. It starts sooo much faster now after sitting. Issue with HEIs and gears is because AMC used three different metal types on thier cams. If the material dont match they eat each other up. I always use the old Dissy gear on my HEIs.

I mounted mine on the rear crossmember tucked up next to the spare tire. I ran new line from the pump inside the passenger frame rail and up the firewall to the back of the engine. Ran the line on the passenger side of the carb and to the carb input. Got to eliminate the loop at the filter. Very clean looking. No heat sources to make it vaporlock. I used a fuel pump controller that will prime it for 3 seconds when u turn it on then stop until u start it. It runs from a tach signal so when the motor dies the fuel shuts off. I also ran that thru a relay to take the strain iff of the controll. It's awesome. I can look up the number if u want. I got it on amazon.
