  • aftermarket crusie control

Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket crusie control unit that fits a 1987 grand wagoneer? Hopefully one that uses the exsisting steering column control switch of repaces it with a factory looking switch. Thanks

BJs off road sells the Dakota Digital one. I plan to get it when I get a little money ahead.
Here is the one if you are running the original cable speedo. It can use the factory turn signal stalk from the 86 and up GWs.

Rostra is good, and the Dakota Digital system is Rostra. I use a Rostra made for an electronic pedal, and it works a treat.

I did get the dakota unit from BJ's. I'm very happy with it. Installation was easy and it works great. The only issue was wiring up the factory switch on the steering column because it has a different plug than the dakota unit but I figured it out with an ohms meter. Their tech people were also helpful.

So glad to hear it...Would you please post how you wired it? I plan on doing it soon, and would love to not have to figure it out alone. I have an 88 GW

IN fact, a thread on the whole installation would be sweet. Just saying.....hint hint

Installation instructions were good but there were a couple of things. The plug and wire colors from the cruise control unit for the steering column switch are different than the original switch plug so you have to slice the wires. On the cruise control unit side its yellow for resume/accel, green for set/coast, red with black strip for power out and red for power in. On the jeeps switch side its yellow for resume/accel, red for set/coast, green for power out and blue for power in. To find the correct wires under the dash you can disconnect the steering column switch by just pulling it straight out and looking under the dash to see which ones move, it looks like just a small black cable with the wires inside. The tach wire for the unit gos to the neg side of the coil. The VSS wire is not used because an auxiliary speed sensor come with it and it gos were the original speed sensor gos in the speedometer cable. There is a auxiliary speed sensor connector for it on the unit. The unit has 12 little switches inside you set. I set mine to MID sensitivity, 8000 pulse rate,8 cyl/high for the setup timer, VSS source as sine wave input, transmission as manual, I swapped out the auto for a 5 speed, and control switch as open circuit. I'd like to include some pictures but I can't figure out how to do it so if you have any questions just let me know

Here are some pictures of the plug from the steering switch. I don't know what it plugged into because it had been disconnected by the previous owner.http://i1340.photobucket.com/albums/o736/Conehead1983/IMG_0484_zps95i2ztul.jpg

Here is the picture of the end I had to cut in order to splice it into the dakota unit. You can see the black sheathing that was around the wires, they are very small and hard to separate, I had to use a razor blade.http://i1340.photobucket.com/albums/...pshhpt0fvb.jpg
