Fave FSJ's...what would be in your dream garage?

Hi All-

Been searching quite a bit in here, lots of neat stuff, parts, history, pics, etc. Pretty doggone helpful.

Just a late night dopey thought, just wondering what folks on here think about in regards to fave FSJ's.

Say you could pick several FSJ's to stuff into that new dream garage you just built. What do you think you'd like to have?

Thanks to some really cool color pics I've found on here, it really got me thinking....hey, daydreams are free! I'm not an FSJ expert, so perhaps some
of my descriptions are a bit off, feel free to edit or inform.

My short list-

65 Super Wag. Black....no vinyl top, manual windows and tailgate. Slightly tricked out 327 (period parts), duals. DD/grocery getter/sleeper.

65 'working Wag'...basic model, 327 (?), factory winch and bumper, tow bar, and whatever other 'working goodies' they offered for the Wag. I've only ever seen 2, in pictures. Just thought they are really neat. Sky blue or that typical 50's-60's seafoam green- don't know the Jeep color names.

65-67 (?) J-panel truck. 327, hd/towing suspension stuff. Parts hauler and getter. Dark blue or dark green. Old panels are just neat.

65-67 Gladiator, flatside. 327. Short box if offered. Yellow or dark green.
Just think short box flatside J trucks are mean looking. Duals, slightly tricked engine. Just for fun and light parts/home hauling.

65-67 Gladiator, stepside. 327. Winch and work bumpers. Don't know if Jeep offered a stepside long box, with dual sidemount spares. Sky blue or dark green. If a 3/4 to 1 ton was offered 65-67, yep. Tow/camper/hd suspension if offered.

Nothing radical or hacked, just some neat vintage Jeeps. Yeah, I'm a dinosaur.

That would do it for me, if Mr. Peabody's Wayback Machine was available.

How bout you folks? Ever just think about this junk from time to time?

You seem to have a soft spot for the 327 rigs
Yep Jeep offered a Gladiator stepside/thriftside with the long box (J300 or J3000) and the Gladiator duallies were rated as one ton trucks back in the day (8600 GVW)

I prefer also the old ones , not a great fan of the grand waggies , my wish list :
- '63 or '64 Tornado wagoneer (mine is not runing and without a title so far..), maybe with IFS option
- '65 V8 wagoneer (SN 5X,XXX)
- Tornado or 327 Gladiator stepside, white or red
- Tornado or 327 Gladiator dually with platform and stakes
- '74 Cherokee with a 401
- '74-'78 Wagoneer with a 401
- '74 J20 with a 401 and a T18 if it ever existed from the factory..(already discussed in a post)

IF I could afford to have a garage again and IF I could afford to fill it with SJs' I would want, for me: to have back my black 81 cherokee laredo w/t with the 258 rebuilt with mpfi and gearing changed from 3:31 to 3:55. Everything else was good before including a/c. For wife: any 86 to 91 g.w. in good shape, hunter, or any shade of green, good wood grain (very important to her ), sun roof, good stereo, a/c, cherry bomb glasspack (had to have it on 2 previous waggys) and a 2- 3 inch lift. That's it! Oh! And fill the garage with all the tools I used to have prior to getting hurt. It's good to dream!

Of course, all of these are concourse quality restored.

My 1972 Wagoneer, concours restored. The Queen of the collection.

1967 Gladiator J-3000 8600 GVW or 7600GVW platform stake 4x4. High compression 4v 327, T18 w/custom overdrive, deepest axle gears available. Every luxury comfort option. Factory rear PTO for running the Jeep optional equipment chop saw and wood chipper. Restored, of course. Firewood hauler truck.

1965 Gladiator J-200 5600 GVW townside 4x4 IFS. 230 OHC with Argentinian modifications to roast the tires in front of the haters. T-98, D20. Base model, but nicely restored. Everyday use truck.

1991 Final Edition Grand Wagoneer. Spinnaker Blue with the Sand interior. 100% restored to stock.

Outside of FSJ's:

My 1973 AMC Ambassador restored. People don't respect a 4-door model with anything but a 401, so I'll have the most beautiful 360 4-door around, restored in it's original Pewter Silver with a blue brocade interior. Custom stereo system. Every option. Ultra comfort luxury cruiser for road trips.

1970 AMC Rebel Machine. This car would have one purpose: to scare the panties off the Detroit guys. I get so sick and tired of "Camaros and Chevelles are the best cars ever! AMC's were just parts of every other manufacturer shoved together and that's why they were crappy."

My aunt's 1966 Marlin 327 4v, T10, restored. MAJOR chick magnet.

I'd probably go for a friend's one owner 2,700 mile '79 Cherokee Golden Eagle. Its for sale but way out of my price range!

I'm perfectly content with the two that I have/am working on, they are both part of my dream garage. Aside from those, my list would go as follows:

1991 Grand Wagoneer in Spinnaker Blue, all stock.
1978 Wagoneer Limited, white with tan interior. With the 401/quadratrac, all stock.
1977 Cherokee "S" 4-door, Tawny Orange with the white stripe and white vinyl interior. 258/4 speed.
1977 Cherokee Chief Wide Trac, Brilliant Blue with black interior. 4bbl 360/4 speed, all stock.
1973 J4800, two tone white/orange. 4bbl 360/4 speed, all stock.

Not that it's full of FSJ's but my "larger" dream garage would be full of empty space... to do with as economics and enthusiasm dictates.
An unmolested cherry bone stock 67 1414X would sure brighten the new days morning sun.
A long wheel base J-300 or 3000 Thriftside would also bring joy.

I didn't know you could get a FSJ 327, with the IFS....there is much I don't know about! Or a 1 ton stake truck, with attachments, with 'comfort options'?

That would be wild, a beefy looking dually stake....with buckets, console, floor shift, tilt, etc....that is just off the wall!

Perhaps there IS truth in the old Jeep tag line-

"Only in a Jeep!"

Curious- what is all this "1414x" stuff? An option code?

And yep, Mud89....I am a Vigilante fan....goes back to being a kid, and having various family members and family friends and neighbors having Nash/Rambler/AMC. All I knew at the time was N/R/AMC did their 'own thing'. If I had known back then the cross over into various Jeeps, I would probably have investigated Jeep much earlier in life.

FSJunkie- oh yeah, your list and comments ring loud and clear. I'm not a huge 4 door fan, but I will make certain exceptions, mostly involving earlier
Nash/Ramblers and some Studes. A mint 57 Rebel is way up on the list, but short of a mega lottery, not happening. A 57 Ambassador crossed my path several years ago, sadly did not work out.

Serehill and Dens71TA......nice rigs. My second Wag was a brown pig nose, 258. With all it's naggles, and a "3/4 tune up"...no kidding, it would get about 17 freeway mpg, on 31x10.50's, 60mph. A buddy suggested a 4.0 head and FI and an OD trans....that might have actually beaten 20mpg freeway.....maybe.

I'm not a big 'late model FSJ' fan....but it's true, that Golden Eagle is NICE.
Wow, well kept and cared for. I love the 'plug and play' nature of FSJ's- a face lift or backdate does not seem to be too terribly hard. One of the good points about AMC's limited budgets. I don't know who the draftsmen and designers of the FSJ's were, but on the car side, Ed Anderson and Dick Teague and their crews worked miracles on AMC's shoestring budgets.

FSJunkie, you're right, for years, eons....car writers/critics always glorify the Big 3 (mostly GM), and for the most part pan and degrade the independents. Yeah, every company had it's lemons. But I will always have a spot for Nash/Rambler/AMC....and the 'related' Jeeps I like.

In these last 10 years of owning a few old rigs, the ones the critics and 'experts' HATED.....got the most positive public comments! My Ramblers, AMC, Jeep and Internationals got total strangers walking up, telling stories, thumbs ups, etc. No jokes. Even people in the crosswalk looked and said stuff like 'cool car/truck', waved, stuff like that.

Wish I could have kept them. Funny how we can miss an inanimate object.

But I am happy to have a Wag again. Just want to keep it, learn more, do more, and keep it going. I get my Rambler and Jeep fix in the same vehicle!
