Wiper motor swap - newer style on older style truck

I swapped an '89 GW wiring harness into a '74 J20, including the entire steering column assembly. Everything is working but the wiper motor.

The wiper motors are different and have a different mounting on the firewall.

I've read a few vague references to installing the newer wiper motor on the older firewall, but nothing definitive.

Any advice?

I put an '85 box onto my '75 J-20. I cut the mounting bracket off of the truck flush with the fire wall, held the motor where I wanted it, and mounted it directly to the firewall with self tapping screws. It has been performing flawlessly through the monsoons...

Interesting Jeff. I would have thought the linkage was a different design knowing AMC Jeep.

Did the same to my 69 and then added intermittent wipers to it.

This is how the older style GM 2 speed wiper motors work

I dont remember having to do anything with the linkage. It seems like it went right together. Using the '85 harness, made it plug and play.
