Could of been out of alinement a bit and that is why the splines stripped off.
With that much crack it probably spread open and the bolts came loose, allowing the splines to skip and destroy each other.

Nope, gone too, I got a lot of rusty powder out of the transfer case input shaft when I cleaned it out with brake cleanner. That was the splines at one time. LOL.

I do have options, put the drive train out of The Compost Heep 360/727/208 in the truck. Put the drive train from The War Buggy in it, fuel injected 360/T18a/Klune/205 twin stick. Or I could just find another T177/208 and call it good.

Thanks, even with a bad trans and transfer case I feel lucky and being a Texas truck the rust is not too bad. The engine starts right up, has a new radiator and fairly new Holly 2 V carb. All this for $650.00. Now to get some primer on her, decide what trans and transfer case to put back in and hit the road and trails.

With what little we know of the numbers of this "Sport Side" or Step side, or whatever.

The only known info to me is that from 1980 to 1983, there were 1289 made.

The first run in 1980 had brows, the rest did not, but if this number is true, we are an elite group!

Our friend Mudd in France, is as close to an FSJ historian as I know, has commented on this fact, not confirming it, but agreeing that it is what he has read.

Just a bit of info on a grand truck!

No fooling. I found a T5 that was built up I'd like to put in my truck for less than the cost of the Ranger O/D but I still don't know if it's strong enough for the V8 (built by a Mustang 5.0 guy)
