Difference between WT and J truck front bumper??

Apparently the PO replaced the widetrack front bumper with a J truck front bumper. The bumper I have does not have mounting holes for the rubber bumpers and nerf strips.

Are there any other differences between a J truck front bumper and a WT Cherokee front bumper? Length, mounting points, etc? Widetrack front bumpers are hard to come by, so I was thinking about modifying the one I have as a substitute.

The bumper dimensions are the same between the two. The rubber bumpers and strips were most likely an option at one point. I'm fairly certain i've seen pics of J trucks and Cherokees with and without them. I've seen a lot of pics over the years so I might be wrong.

The pre '80 3 piece bumpers will not bolt directly to the post '80 Jeeps and vice versa.

I have an 80 and it did not come with the rubber bump stops.

Mine is an '83 Laredo and the rear, original bumper has the rubber bumperettes and nerf strips . . . so it's a good bet the front bumper came with them as well. The factory brochures and advertisements for '83 all show the Laredo with rubber bumpers and nerf strips.

The front bumper I have is one piece . . . does anyone forsee problems drilling mounting holes in this bumper? Thanks!

There shouldn't be any problems at all drilling it.

If that bumper is chrome...it will be from a 79 wt...only year jeep made that bumper.

The rest is polished aluminum. I beleive it's the Laredo package That has the
nerf strip both of mine did. I know some Honchos had them also.

My 80 J10 had the chrome bumper with no holes in it other than the six attachment points.
