    Armstrong Tires

    Anyone have experience with Armstrong tires? Specifically these: https://www.onlinetires.com/tires/view/289484/

    For my '98 Dodge Diesel short bed. Light shell, no heavy towing. Maybe a small bike trailer once in a while at most.

    Don't tell the DOT but 315/75/16 on stock wheels, 6.5" I think. I've run this size several times before.

    Or that vendor?

    No experience with that particular tire or retailer, but they were a very popular brand with the 4 wheeling guys back in the 70's and 80's. Don't know about quality now.

      Yeah, went through changes of ownership and made in Thailand now.

      Not necessarily a bad thing. Just as made here is not necessarily a good thing, quality wise though I do like to deal locally as far as manufacturing goes.

          They were iconic for sure. I remember seeing Armstrong Tru-Trac and Norseman all over the place in my childhood. Great looking tire. If Armstrong was still Armstrong, and if they still made them, I'd probably have a set on my J20.

          From my very limited understanding, the current Armstrong brand has nothing to do with the Armstrong tires we remember from the good old days. I have never seen them in the flesh, which suggests that their market presence and distribution are very weak. My preference, after having tried and failed to outsmart myself time and again, is now to go with a popular product that is widely available. So I went with the Cooper S/T Maxx. They're great for my usage but the OP might be better off with their AT3 XLT. It looks fairly comparable in tread pattern and purpose to the Armstrong model he was looking at.

          For purchase and install, I went through Discount Tire, partly because they have stores everywhere in this part of the country. Theoretically that makes it easier if I need service somewhere out of town.

          Did you know? Willys is just Willis spelled differently, but pronounced the same. Neither Willy nor his apostrophe are involved.

            Armstrong used to manufacture the Dick Cepek tires. I think they are (all) under the Cooper umbrella now. which is becoming a subset of Goodyear.
