Once I got the rails back on and dried I primered the roof for rust protection:

hey man

while you have been in the interior working

have you noticed the
threaded holes further back in roof

near where the back of the back seat would be
but up in roof cavity,....

I used those holes to install 3rd row belts
although they will prob never be used in my lifetime....

I think I remember reading the threaded holes were for a tire carrier ?
can't remember....

Used new grommet and screw sets to reinstall the roof rack and slats, and followed up with a slathering of flexible gasket maker for water tight integrity:

Once I got the floor and ceiling done, I moved onto the cargo area. Using a combo of Duplicolor semi-gloss black primer/paint, Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric paint in the "Desert Sand" color, and factory Baltic Blue from Paintscratch.com, I started detail work.

Ordered the complete ACC black carpet kit from the cheapest place I could find, as I'm not a fan of tan or other light colored carpets in high-use areas. I worked for a Mustang resto shop when I was younger so this is second-nature for me now. Carpet is just mocked in for now.

The cargo light switch and dome light wiring was a hack job mess from someone trying to add in a 2nd round dome light at some point. Nothing worked, so while my Dad was out visiting and helping with mechanicals we decided to fix the mess. Total time was about 6 hours of soldering, splicing, and verifying.

We didn't now what correct operation looked like, so had to figure it out.
We now know this:
1. All lights come on when any door is opened.
2. All lights come on when the dimmer switch is turned on.
3. All lights come on when the cargo light switch is in the "ON" position.

Since there was so much interior stuff missing when I bought the beast, I didn't realize there were cargo area under-carpet supports till I recently found some mint condition ones in an old 81 GW at the salvage yard. One had a bit of water damage, but wasn't bad at all considering the age. I bleached, cleaned, and gave them a quick coat of spray paint to keep them newish before putting them in the cargo area:

Working my way forward I decided to tackle the rear doors. I knew I had busted screws and bad wiring for both doors, so tackled that. Also had to source a right rear window motor, as that assembly was missing and window was being held up by a wooden board. Also lubed up the tracks.

All four door lock mechanism springs were missing, so the door locks would just drop any time the doors were closed.
Got the new spring kit:

A little hard to wedge the new springs in, but screwdriver and needle nose did the trick, so I could lube up the works on all 4 doors:

Well, I'm cheating, Dave.
Most of the work I'm posting was done over the winter and spring months, more specifically during the corona lockdown we did up here in March/April. I've just finally gotten around to uploading many of the pics to Flickr and linking them here.

I'm almost ready to put the rear headliner on, and paint the passenger side power seat frame, after installing the new front carpet. I was hoping to have it on the road at the end of the month, but some illnesses have delayed me recently.

Since I had wrong year door panels, and/or badly molded & rotting backing on all my door panels, I scored all 4 panels from a great guy back east named Nick.
Figured I'd keep the theme of floor areas done in black, and everything else in Desert Sand, so did the door panels custom-like.

First came cleaning the rears:
