Good looking 81' CJ5 you have there!
I always liked the cj jeeps and have a 80' cj5 project myself.
It's in pieces for frame and body repair for years now.
99' Dodge ram 2500 4x4 crew cab 5.9 Cummins ,backup work truck for now
73' Jeep J4000 (named Heep or Desert Dragon) amc 360 V8 converted to LPG with T15/D20 (was my daily work truck for thirteen years and is getting major overhaul at the moment!)
80' Jeep cj5 350 V8 Chevy/sm420/D300 project
70/71 Jeep J4000 parts truck with Buick 350
Former vehicles:
85' Volkswagen caddy mk1 1.6 diesel.
83 Toyota land cruiser BJ42 3.4 diesel.
Thinking about the CC, and not sure I would recommend it.
...those who have tried the CC over it, do not have good results.
CC needs paint to stick to, otherwise looks worse than the patina just bare.
I agree! My personal opinion, when you clear coat over surface rust, it looks artificial and forced. Plus, peeling clear coat over rust looks HORRENDOUS!
LOL, I already have a color picked out for it. Body work and paint are last on the list. Still to much work to do before I even consider painting it. So it will stay a spotted mess for a little while longer.

Finally made myself go out and try to trouble shoot the no start issue. Put the original coil back on it. Still no start. Struggled to disconnect the plugs on the ignition control module. Harness side and module plugs were both corroded. The wires on the 2 pin module plug were cracked right next to connector. Cleaned the connectors with contact cleaner and small file. Primed carb and connected the module back up. It started on first attempt. Taped up cracked wires on the module to hold over for now. I will replace the module due to the cracked wires but, I really want to go ahead and upgrade with Holley Sniper and Hyperspark distributor kit. I am actually excited about getting back to work on it.
