    1984 Grand Wagoneer

Looking for 4 ea 16" rims that would fit my '84 G Waggy

As I have 4 ea 16" tires I can use, figured it would be cheaper to buy 16" rims, than 4 ea 15" tires right now.

Looking for local in AZ only, and might even hit pick-n-pull if nobody has a set available.

    PM if you have anything.

    Thanks

NOTE - Keeping my 15" stock rims for future mating with new 15" tires.
    '81 CJ5 Base, 258 I6, MC2100, T176 4 spd, 300 TC, D30 Front NT, 3.31, 2-Piece AMC 20 rear NT, 3.31, 4" high arc spring lift

    '84 Grand Wagoneer, 401 V8 (.030 over), MC2150 HA Comp, 727 auto, Selec-trac NP229, AMC 20 REAR - D44 FRONT - WT 3.31, 4" high arc spring lift

    Nobody?

    Here is some research findings-

Both Jeep, Toyota, Nissan and Chevy were the same in the 70's & 80's. They are all 6 on 5.5.

The front hubs are the same on 6 lug jeeps and 6 lug Chevy’s. D44/10 bolt share the same hubs, so the sizes would be the same.

You can also do 16" wheels with '88 up GM 2wd rims (4x4 are wrong offset after '87) and have fun with 255/85/16 tires (33/10.50)

The 6 lug Chevy "rally" wheels are the same bolt pattern as a fsj. 6 lug fsj's can generally use Chevy 6 lug rims and j20's can use ford, Chevy, and dodge rims up until the mid 90's for ford, early 2000's for dodge, and mid 2000's for Chevy.

The new 4Runners and Frontiers and stuff all still have 6x5.5 wheels--if you can find some take-offs from one of those you should be able to get them pretty cheap. Only thing you have to watch is make sure they have at least a 3" bore in the middle.

That seems the greatest challenge, with what I found today, and some of the Toyota wheels have less area on inside of rim and will hit front calipers before seating on the hub.

Really just want an old oem steel set of 16" rims, from 70-80's that will fit, as I have a set of 4 ea 16" tires off my Dakota that have some miles left on them.

Saved them to use as trailer tires, but do not have the trailer yet, and are perfect for the initial driving of the Wagoneer.

All I need now really are brakes, and I could be driving it, so need to get some good rubber on the ground soon.

I don't know that they ever had 16s with the 6x5.5 lug patterns on the Jeeps. Anything with a 16" would be a 3/4 ton and thus be 8 lug. Maybe I'm wrong but I haven't seen reference to stock 16s on AMC era trucks. And the Kaisers would've been 5x5.5 so they're irrelevant.

Your right on never having 16" wheels on a stock truck, but there are 16" 6x5.5 out there from other makes, that can work.

There are plenty of options, but looks like I will need to take my tape measure to pick-N-pull, and make sure what I find will actually work.

Summit and others will sell new rims this size, but for my needs I want a cheap older set for now, that I can use until the funds for new 15" tires for stock aluminum wheels is more available.

In future I can use the steel 16" for off road, and save the stock aluminum wheels for hiway and road trips.

Both would be about same height overall, so really no difference for gearing, turning, or any other issues.
