how hard is this going to be? steering column

the bearing at the bottom of my 76 Cherokee steering column has completely come apart. I only see the inner race on the shaft in the eng compartment. its flopping around.the column is a non tilt and in excellent shape otherwise.is this going to be a very hard fix?

If it's just the bottom bearings, shouldn't be too hard. Search the technical forum and go to Tom Collins Ol' Jeep to get the steering column tech sheet. Should be a clip, nylon bushing and bearings on the bottom end.

    Good luck.

                      thanks! the bearing is perfect.
my old one is sliding up and down the shaft so its not frozen on the shaft at all.i took the nut off of the clamp that couples the upper part of the steering shaft to the bottom of the column but that bolt needs to be removed completely I guess.i was pounding on it with a punch and a hammer so hard that I thought I might damage something in the column so I stopped for now.
im gona try an air chisel on the bolt next time I get to it again.

there is not much room in this area with the bb chevy and the headers.

yea that bolt has to come off complete for the u joint to be removed.
then pull the retaining clip and remove bearing.
