Any hills/grades it'll shift back down into 3rd to maintain speed and power. I wouldn't consider an OD trans with anything higher than 3.54 gears. Even my XJ's with stock 3.54's hunt a on even slight short up hill stretches. You can live with it but if your shooting for better mpgs from an OD trans 4th gear...don't expect it with too high of axle gearing.
I am thinking of running 4.11 on 31x15 ?????

our full size hi top dodge van had the A518 transmission with a 5.2 and 3.07 gears. the 318 is hardly a torque monster, but worked fine with the 3.07 gears in that 6000lb van. an amc 360 will pull better than that 5.2.

Love it !

HUGE fan of the AW 4 - it's the BEST trans we ever put in a Jeep for its durability, simplicity, and adaptability.

So - I didn't find the answer in the other thread, which was great .. will a QT bolt up to this? My Chief has a 401 / Turbo 400 / QT set up right now.. [ QT has a part time kit in it.. and its a pass side drop.. that's why I am asking...] 231 has 21 and 23 splines.. that was due to an auto [21 splines] and a manual [23 splines] if I remember correctly.

If it does, then all I have to do is drive shafts... Its a 77 with the offset rear AMC 20. Already have 4.10 gears it seems ....

Fit or NO fit ? THAT is the question !

Nope. Nothing else matches the long 10-spline output shaft used with the Quadratrac.

A '77 should have a rear Dana 44, unless it's been swapped. The first year for the AMC Corporate axle in a Wagoneer/Cherokee was 1980. The CJ-5 and CJ-7 got the 20 starting in 1976, and a '76-79 CJ-7 could have an offset 20 with the TH400 and Quadratrac. But not a wagon.

The only things with 21 splines were the early early autos and AX-5 5 speeds, IIRC. Everything else was 23 spline.
