yeah, but it is only beveled one side, and it has that cup at the top where it looks like it has been hammered on. It looks like it is a specialized kind of chisel, and I was wondering if anyone knew.

Looks like an old wood handled wood chisel. The button on the top would have been the striking point for a mallet. Wood chisels are commonly only beveled on one side.

Right, Wood chisels are made that way. But its a cup, not a button. looks like a french horn mouthpiece. Maybe it had a wood handle in the cup? That makes some sense, but the metal of a chisel usually extends through the handle. But its so thick? Maybe a morticing chisel?

marples and sons wheelwright chisel\


see if it has markings, Shamrocks on it. I did a couple of searches and Marples used to make a couple that look very similar
