Attention AZ Full Size Jeepers,

Those of us participating in the AZ FSJ'ers trail rides have been throwing this one around since last Summer in Ouray. The March trail ride will be on Saturday March 6th. We'll be 4-wheeling the Chivo Falls trail northwest of Tucson. It is a difficult trail (3.5). Some lift and a minimum of 31" tires with good tread are recommended. Some off road driving experience will also be handy.

It will take 8 hrs from the starting location to
finish at the same location in Tucson. This includes time for lunch, FSJ chit-chat and playing on a few obstacles along the way.

If you don't feel you or your rig will be ready, but you'd like to join in, you may be able to ride with another Jeeper as a passenger/spotter. Some of you drivers may want to have someone ride along as a passenger/spotter in your rig. We can work out these arrangements on this forum, as well as, the e-mail list.

We'll be meeting at the Circle K on 11271 E Tanque Verde Rd at 9:00 am.
-------------------------------------------------

Attendance Roster:

Steve----------AZ J20
Tom------------gwinn
Mike-----------Mike

Sounds good Tom, I may need to ride with someone. I'm still running different gear ratios between the 6 lug rear and the 5 lug front
Just ain't enough time in the day to get this stuff swapped these days.

Sound good, I think we have a couple more local slackers that are not Reading the board much these days due to work/school commitments.
I'll try to hustle up MtnGoat, Beloth and FC101guy, see which of them can make it.

Anyone think I'll do too much damage in the dirt running 3.54's in back and 3.31's up front

I don't think so.
I'll hold off the 14bolt/HD44 install until after that.

gwinn, any word on the date for the trip on the back road to Crown King? That place was like the Bermuda Triangle for my Grand the last time I was out there. My Grand was freaking out left and right, then cured it's self after I started to leave. It was really weird. I've been anxious to conquer that trail. If the trip is after mid-March I'll have my lift and will definetely go again.

89grand, the Crown King trip will likely be in mid to late April, or even May.

How is the Crown king trail now? I haven't been on it for twenty years.

As long as its in the middle of the month, I should be able to go.

How tough will this run be? my rig has not been tested too much and I don't want to ruin anyones trip. Also not sure because my tires are almost bald. But I would like to go....If I do, someone can be my co-pilot. How long will the run take?

It is much worse than it used to be. The ledges near the top are badly eroded. It used to be rated a 2.5, it's now a 3.0. It will require some lift and 31" plus tires.

Steve would have a better idea. Just how bald is almost bald.

Cool

I would just plan on joining in and we’ll take a look and make a decision. You can make it easy prolly. My buddies from work went out last weekend while I was out of town. They said there were 100 people at the chute where the bypass is. I have shown pics of this. Rigs going up and down tail light hole. It’s going to be a fun trip.

They didn't look that bad Bobby, I think you'll be fine. I'll be happy to copilot with you. I'm not gonna chance breaking another Dana20 adapter with the mismatched gears and don't have time to finish the axles before this run.

Kinda up to you and your stamina Bobby.
If you come down the back way, 60, to 79, it's actually only 104 miles and 6 major turns to my doorstep.

Tom is staying out near I-10 and Ina, sort of close to Steve but a long ways away from the trail. (it's back up there in about the 3rd post)

There is a Sheraton on Grant Rd. much closer and a DoubleTree on Alvernon near Broadway (probably not as nice but cheaper), both of those are about 5 miles from the trailhead and pretty much midtown.

Cool

It’s three hours from Tempe to the Circle K meeting place. We will be coming back down Redington Pass as the sun sets over Tucson and be back at the Circle K at 6:30pm. You could leave an hour earlier if you don’t hang around at the play area after we wheel the trail. A trip from Phx would be from 6:00am to 9:30pm or less.

Looking worse here too.
I'll probably have to go back over to Silver City, NM on Friday to deal with the water well people, survey people, propane people and the power company. some things just have to get done on normal business days.
I might get done early enough to come back Friday night but will probably stay the night and come back Saturday morning and you folks will be on the trail by then.

(Mike, don't worry about it, my plate overflowed with this house thing, I've been driving around with your inner fender well in the back of the truck for 2 weeks now)
