I Went to Jeep Heaven

AKA - J and W Auto wreckers near Sacramento, CA. This must be the place that CA FSJ go when they die. They have many many FSJ all in various conditions. Unfortunately I did not take photos since they strictly have posted no taking photos. It was a little sad to see some pretty nice looking rigs there that seemed pretty complete and in good condition.

But for a little under $200 I got:

A Straight tailgate with a little rust
A tranny crossmember (what I really wanted)
A West Coast Jr mirror for my driver side (since that one is long gone)
The left side ash tray that I was missing
A door lock cyclinder

The guys that work there are very helpful. I know lots of members have dealt with them. They will shipped all over the US.
Here are the pics of what I got:

Pretty cool! I take it that on the older trucks they did not have a handle built into the tailgate?

Would you happen to have any contact info for them? Most of the yards in this area of Pa that had FSJs crushed them when scrap was up a couple years ago.

I think it was well worth the two and half hour drive to get there. But at least I know what ever I need they have. They have lots of stuff already pulled like Rhino grills, hubcaps, centercaps, lights, etc. I have never seen that many FSJs, plus they have little Cherokees, CJs, Wranglers, Scouts.

Little bit of a drive for you but Harry's U-Pull-it always has some FJS's . There's also EZ-Pull that had a lot. I think most yards cleaned up/cashed in last summer .
Bought a gas tank skid plate from J&W about 14 years ago. Then found a few rust free ones at Harry's a few years later!

parts

I contacted them for a rust free 87 wag fender with very good woodgrain. $200 was their reply. Seems awful steep?

same here, and it was the same price for a WT fender for my j10 a year ago, then shipping was like another $200, for an extra $400 i went and bought a complete 83 cherokee and pulled the whole front clip, lift and tires off and put it all the j10, then sold the rest to a kid who wanted to build a mudder

That kind of stuff I save for the pick n pull, unless it's in exceptional condition. If I need anything that's unusual and hard to find, they are my first choice. I got an oil filter mount for an AMC 327 for $15 plus shipping. I felt that was very reasonable, since I could not locate another one locally.

Me thinks I'll keep looking, somewhere out there in a garage/barn/living room is an outstanding woodgrain fender with my name on it for a reasonable price.

I don't know the exact reasons but I would guess it may be simply a privacy issue or it could be a liability/insurance issue? Maybe they don't want all the artsi fartsi types in there taking pictures and possibly cutting themselves or getting dirty!

Also, if they responded to every request by taking and loading a photo, they would not have time to staff the counter. The other reason I can guess is between the time they send you a pic and when you actually decide to order, that part could be sold.

CLS, ya done good for $200. Nice to see J&w's finally hired an earthling. granted they have lotsa stuff but everything Jeep isn't gold. Couple years ago I've tried them for parts a couple times and their prices were insane expensive for used/wrecking yard stuff.
Glad they finally got a clue as to what junkyard parts are worth. A good Jeep boneyard is a good thing.
May have to try them again in the future.

I can understand their no picture policy, but why cannot customers take their own pictures?
