Just bought a 1981 J20. Would like to decode the data plate. I've done the VIN decode here but the rest is not available in the tech library.

Can anyone here help?

IIRC the only numbers that are decodeable are the 99 (trim?) and 3A0 (paint?). The numbers above are the invoice number(?), some Jeep internal number, and the SSR&O number (special sales request and order number). These aren't meaningful without the original factory and/or dealer paperwork.

There should be little more about these in the '81 FSM, sp. the paint codes.

Thanks Tim. The paint code is the only one I really need to know. The others don't really matter.
