To Do List for my 1979 Chief

Happy new year to all of you!

Is it allowed to ask my questions to different themes in one Thread?
It would be simplier for me to follow your answers or links to former contributions.

regards.

wincher.

You can do whatever is easiest for you. We're not horribly strict around here.

Carburetor: bought a nearly new 1406 edelbrock. but I am a victim of a ebay scammer
paid for it but no shipping of the carb.!! Happy new year!
visited the police station yesterday...
have to check my carter AFB 625cfm carb

Ignition Timing:
have to check the timing. Strobe lamp is availlable.
(My grandpa, father and now my brother have a garage since the 1960 years...)
Timing 10 degrees at idle with the barrel number 1?
Change to a MSD Ignition??
Vacuum Unit?? Distributor ??

No Kickdown
No wire from the Detent Switch to the transmission existing.
And adjustment availlable: Pedal - detent switch

Adustment of the gear linkage.
gearshift lever doesnt fit to quadrant dial. with lever max to right transmission is in 2 and not in 1 gear.

Fuse panel
looks awful and not original.
with wore patched fuses...

mine looks different to this in the manual

Exhaust Manifold
probably broken an the right bank over the heat valve.
prabably the screws get over tighten ..
A friend has maybe a intact manifold an knows a good welder

Fresh Air
No Bowden cable existing. and no duct control switch.

Here is my opinion.

I have a general rule when I buying a project:
1) make it run.
2) make it drive.
3) make things work.
4) make it reliable.
5) make it look good.

With that in mind and looking at your list:

1) Carburetor: have to check my carter AFB 625cfm carb. Rebuild this. There should be a number stamped on the horn that will tell you exactly what it is. There is a TOOOOooooooon of information on AFBs on the interwebz. It's a good carb and can run well on a 360. Rebuild it, put fresh gas in it, stick it on top, and try to get the truck to start.
http://www.carburetor-blog.com/carter-afb-carburetor/

2)Ignition Timing: Timing 10 degrees at idle with the barrel number 1? Yes, set it at 10 degrees with the engine idling and no vacuum signal to the distributor. Take the vacuum line off the distributor and plug the vacuum line (DO NOT FORGET TO PLUG THE VACUUM LINE). Set it to 10.

Change to a MSD Ignition??No, leave it a factory setup if it works
Vacuum Unit?? Distributor ?? Are you asking what these are of if you should change them? Don't change from factory parts if you can. Stay stock.

3) No Kickdown
No wire from the Detent Switch to the transmission existing.=I assume the switch is there, though? if so, you can make your own harness. But get it running first (carb and timing first).
And adjustment availlable: Pedal - detent switch
Get the wire first

4) Adustment of the gear linkage. gearshift lever doesnt fit to quadrant dial. with lever max to right transmission is in 2 and not in 1 gear.
=this sound more like loose/sloppy parts. Put it in park and wiggle the shifter. Find the slop and try to fix that.

5) Fuse panel looks awful and not original. with wore patched fuses...
mine looks different to this in the manual
=Post pictures. This may be a killer. This may end up being the first job after you rebuild the carb and try to start it.

6) Exhaust Manifold probably broken an the right bank over the heat valve.
probably the screws get over tighten .. A friend has maybe a intact manifold an knows a good welder
=Ignore this for now. Get it running/driving first. A broken manifold is highly annoying and fixable but get to the other stuff first.

7) Fresh Air No Bowden cable existing. and no duct control switch.
=Ignore this for now. You can get to this later.

8) Axle: renew the lower and upper ball stud. Got the parts from the previous owner
=Do this after it runs and drives. This is important but make sure it runs and drives, first. This is a long (but not hard) job.

The snipping pics from the TSM doesnt work here
=nope. the TSM is scanned in a way that makes it hard to post pics of it. If I need to post a picture, I take a screen shot on my laptop, paste it into Microsoft paint, save it as a .jpg then post that.

Post some pictures of the transmission linkage. I just did mine and probably can tell what's missing or warn out.

other than that I believe Rang has given some good advice.

I have a general rule when I buying a project:
1) make it run.

It runs. Have done a testdrive before selling the jeep

2) make it drive.
It runs. Have done a testdrive before selling the jeep

3) make things work.
kickdown ist the first.

The linkage looks worn out or only a loose nut. unfortunately i cant visit the jeep since Christmas..

4) make it reliable.
correct ignition and carb setting.

5) make it look good.

maybe the 33" tires, the car roor lining, ..

Carb is a 9637SA 0205. see the separat thread
Thanks for the link to Carter.

What on earth is my mistake?
Open a jpg with irvanView, change the size to 365kb (by percent from original)and save the pic.
In Windows explorer the size is now 365 kb ..

The max size for jpg attachement is 488,3kb.(Attachment key)

try to upload the file and become a upload error :
exceeds forum qouta by 365kb...

Yeah, It's kind of a pain to post pictures. Here are 2 threads with different ways of doing it:

Mine has no bushing between seletor lever bracket and the lever.
or the lever bracket is wrong mounted . Frontside with bushing to backside..

Maybe to much clearance without guidance here...
