Hi Dan .. PM me your number so I can come browse.. the rear drum parts are yours for sure... I certainly need a front bumper and headlight buckets.. want them nicer than the one on the Jeep now. It's not damaged, but seems to be slightly "cloudy" ? Weird.. any suggestions? If I could find an NOS grill/headlight buckets I would pop for it!

I need some other small stuff as well.. every time I look stuff over, I find small stuff that needs fixing..

Like the tan dash pad.. and visor mounting buckets... the rear seat bungee and mounting stud.... stuff like that.

Oh - and I desperately need the piece that goes on the bottom of the driver door glass.. can those be bought? The slotted part has rusted off? So the window is not working.. manual window if it matters.

Spending what little extra time I have chasing down some parts... and continue to clean up paint. And finding other issues of course.. like the driver window glass attaching part has rusted off, Now have an inop driver door. Need that part that attaches to the lower glass channel....

Slowly putting together chrome 3 pc bumper sets .. and brackets. Some progress...

Rusty Gold !

Found some bumpers and various parts ....

Got a re-chromed rear center pc.. great! And a couple of decent corners... 2 good, 2 just OK for now. Why do some of the bumper corners have a slot in them? 1 has a slot, the other 3 do not? All have a fair bit of rust on the backside....

Also found a decent front center pc. It has some scratches, but will have to do for now. Also got the front brackets.. exactly how does this go together ? Anybody have pictures? My 77 factory manual does not show any assembly pictures, darn it ! Help please? Any suggestions on where to pick up the bumper assembly bolts? Maybe I can use stainless?

If anybody has almost perfect bumper corners like these, or a perfect front center pc, let me know. I am in the market for these parts.

[IMG][/IMG]

You can see here the areas I have used the chrome polish on . . . cleaning up pretty well, but the scratches through the chrome will not polish out ! LOL

Rain all weekend .. got caught out in the CJ with no top or doors..

So spent some more time with the chrome polish.. overall the bumpers have cleaned up well. You can see the backsides are rusty.... I left one unpolished for ref of what they started as.

So it seems the early end pieces don't have the jack slot.... I need to find one more without the lower slot. I am considering getting these parts re-chromed.. in which case I can use the rear bumpers that are painted black on the rear of the jeep. Have to find out how much this will cost though .... Right now it's elbow grease only.

And the replacement center caps for the wheels showed up. I don't know the wheel brand [ No markings anywhere ], but a local shop was able to get me some center cap parts that will work. Open covers for the hubs, closed ones for the rear.

Also got new lug nuts from NAPA. Again, don't want to spend money for wheels right now, so this is a band aid to make the wheels look acceptable for now. Cost: spray can paint, elbow grease.

HELP :

Need the front 3 pc bumpers assembly - as in how do they go together ?? I don't have any info. Want to make sure I have everything BEFORE I take the winch bumper off.

Edit: Found the magic pic.. from another build thread. I see enough here to understand the front brackets I think. I assume there are weld nuts in the frame? Or holes to add mounting nuts to the inside??

Are you referring to the slot for the bumper jack? Or another slot? The other slot would be for the plastic/rubber bump strips that some of the three piece bumpers had.

Hi Loren!

Perfect! That is a great ref shot for mounting the brackets! Looks like I do have the required brackets...

Now just have to find the chrome or stainless bumper bolts to assemble. Any suggestions folks? I have none of those.

should be the standard bumper bolts. Look up Bumper Bolts on www.summitracing.com. You can get Stainless, Polished Stainless or Chrome Steel.

Limited work time.. for the Jeep that is! Job is keeping me busy busy . . . A couple of Jeep buddies stopped by to visit the new project.. wife and daughter came out too!

[IMG][/IMG]

But - in the limited time I have, I have been playing around some more with the paint buffing.. trying different products and now a proper orbital polishing wheel.

Wow - what a difference! I went over some of the paint with a heavy cutting compound and a small orbital polisher.. came out much better, but still had some cloudly appearance.

Now, hit it with a full size, proper orbital polisher and a foam pad .. and WOW! Now we have some clear shine. Cost? Elbow grease.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

Daughter says .. go dad .. polish. I want to go for a ride....
I am using #4 cutting compound, followed by a light coat of wax... wife looks on... she says, and I quote: " Just paint it already! " LOL
Maybe later dear.

In spite of common sense, and limited time, I decided I HAD to get another Chief. Seriously, I have loved this package since I was a kid. don't know why, just do.
Getting a CJ together was first, this one is the icing on the cake... Well sort of the "second helping" of icing on the cake! [ i.e. Madness ]

Good for you best of luck.
Like myself
1961 Tuxedo Mark IV was the starter for me.
Then the 1981 J10 Laredo PU still have,
and now a 1969 Javelin SST 390 T10 Go-Pack car.

And in the news today :

Actually took the Chief for a drive! I finally got my insurance and plate taken care of...

Now that I'm "legal" to drive, took her out to burnish the brakes, and check the actual drivability of the Jeep. Passed with no leaks [that I can see anyway], no overheating or other issues that would make me bring it home.
And - bonus, the cruise works !?

Drove maybe 9 miles .. the brakes work well, and the Jeep goes straight now. Strangely, the speedo, although bouncing at low speed, seems to be dead on with the GPS - so it's accurate anyway.

T-case mystery.. Qtrac working/? Milemarker kit installed? - I checked the 4WD in the local school parking lot.... first- lock the hubs.. then flip the vacuum switch in the glove box.. Wa-La! it works. Bonus. Then shift it into low range, with some grinding.. and that works as well. Ahh, functional t-case!

Turn off Emergency drive, stayed in 4WD. Had to back up to get it back to 2 WD. Is that normal?? So.. the QudraTrac seems to have the Milemarker kit in it, and it seems to work. Good.

Busy the last few days with other stuff, but got a few items done.

Removed the radiator, belts, hoses and a dead alternator....

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

And removed the front winch bumper.. it's looking for a new home. I want some very nice stock 3 pc bumpers. And a very nice Razor grill..

[IMG][/IMG]

The removed parts pile is growing ...
