If you can't make it better why waste your time. No use repeating the orignal mistakes. I'm to old to push it that's why.

I like it eventhough it looks kinda like a scout. wonder what they do with the one or two concept vehicles after they are made and get denied for production.
Destroy them or put them on display some place?

I'm a big fan of the Chief concept. I like the interior wood accents, razor grill, front and rear body lines, chrome bumpers and the tail lights. I'm not a fan of the flowery theme. Too bad it's just a concept.

I also like the Africa edition. It looks like its almost ready to go into production. Could this finally be the introduction of the diesel engine to the U.S. wrangler line up?

I'd be all over one. It'd be nice if I could talk wife into getting one so I could keep waggy also.

"Though some might argue the iconic Wrangler and its four-door Wrangler Unlimited version are among the best-performing off-road vehicles, they suffer from limited passenger comfort, harsh and erratic ride and handling abilities and excessive wind noise at higher speeds. True, they get great resale value, but the Wranglers placed among the lowest scoring models in Consumer Reports’ testing, with the Unlimited also falling on its worst-values list; the original Jeep’s descendent also gets low marks in initial quality, performance and reliability from J.D. Power"

I thought those were the "features" that that made us love our Jeeps !

yeah,i remember when everyone here couldn't wait to run out and buy a coammander. how many did. not near as much actual love.

look at what those wranglers fetch for money. i think those "features" get ugly with a payment book on the dresser.

LOL

Take one of our SJ's over there & see what they think of it. There's no SUV or crossover that does everything perfect nor should we expect them to. Range Rover, Hummer, Chevy, Ford all have their limitations. They should have driven a Navigator? Buy an off road vehicle & expect it to have highway manners?? A removable top that makes road noise? I have a friend with a new Camaro that has wind noise. Show me one that doesn't. It sounds like the guy was expecting a Camry. In the writers testing environment it would faired better. Are they perfect no. Is he judging them on their weakest points sure. If you buy the small engine & expect the Hemi it's not the manufacturers fault.
I liked my Commander also. It was more a street worthy & would have done better in this test than these Jeeps did. Because of the wuss factor Commanders are no longer with us. Market (Supply & demand) determines the direction. So when Jeep builds what the writers looking for it can't survive. It appears the buyers of these Wranglers new & used are looking for something different than the writer is. This easily makes a write up bad (instead of the vehicle) when the writer doesn't understand the vehicles target market. I have never thought about getting in a wrangler & driving to Alaska. I've never gotten in a Camry & go off roading. I suppose you should consider the Forbes CR audience. I remember the TJ, YJ & the bad rap they got & now there out there with 300+K on them.

Manufacturers are not trying to make the best vehicle they can. They're trying to make what we will buy. Hence the return of the romance with Mustang, Camaro & Challenger. They tried to kill them. Competition just built baby ponies & cleaned up. It took the big 3 a while to figure it out.
When you see a Wrangler on every corner they have to be doing something right.

Totally agree were not the target market for Jeep, Forbes, or CR.

Just My Opinions. I think the real question her is who really missed the boat the writer or the industry or the fickle misdirected buyer. If it's the buyer, having superb resale means he won't get hurts as bad as he could have with lets say as Chevy volt.

the commander was a poor seller because of the price. used ones can be a decent buy tho.

if jeep ever builds a new GW they should go buy a navigator and study it well.

Well

The Navigator is a nice rig but too much fluff like air ride for me. But I have no doubt it serves it's purpose. The Commander was costly. Not near as costly than the Navigator Denali Yukon ETC. Again a different customer target. Apple & oranges. A 2005 Navigator brings about half what a wrangler can. But more than a commander. I still think the Commander was the best built thing Jeep has put out in a while. I hope Jeep doesn't pattern after the Navigator myself.

Just simply different strokes.

me too. my commander was tight and quiet. but it was something like a 38K sticker for a v6 and single speed case. i paid 12,500 for it. a year later sold it for 12K and another dealer bought it and flipped it in a few days. i would consider another but it would be a fully loaded 4.7 or hemi power unit.

a grand wag that is anything less than luxery won't sell. and jeep is dumb enough to find out the hard way.

i saw a wrangler at the dealer lot today. had WILLYS on the hood. i lol'd. gimmicks is all jeep has anymore.

Well

To be perfectly Clear coolness is driving the Wrangler into crazy prices but the phenomenon started back in the 70's with CJ's. Commando's were the Commander of that era.

remember the good old days when you could buy a stripped basic car? barring fed regs look at the bloated hog the wrangler is.

what if jeep made a bare bones wrangler and offered that as a willys.

There's no doubt there would be a small market.

Back when they made base units Cj's SJ's & J's they were not really that cheap. I remember in 1975 I paid 3,800.00 for a full size chevy LWB truck & 4,200.00 for a base CJ.

The CJ had only 2 options hardtop & a/c.
Chevy was loaded.
