Late model GW steering column

OK, I got the early 90 GM column and it is not a direct bolt in to the Jeep. I'll need to cut the firewall mounting bracket off the shaft of the GM column (as it is welded on) and rework the shaft at the Jeep firewall to accept the Jeep split firewall attachment. It does not have the PRNDL on the column, and it is a little longer than the Jeep column, from where it bolts to the dash attachment to the point where it attaches to the steering rod attachment. From the dash attachment point out to the steering wheel it almost identical in length. So it might work, but it won't have the PRNDL on the column.

So does any one know if a late model GW steering column is a direct fit to a early 80's Cherokee? I saw a picture of one and it appeared that they have the tilt and cruise on the column, but do they have the dimmer as well and are they a direct bolt in? If it is a direct bolt in, it does have the PRNDL and would be a lot less work to put it in, if I can find one.

Also, what about the dash gauge cluster? Will a late model GW cluster bolt into the metal dash of a Cherokee?

Thanks

Robert,

The early 80's FSJ's (depending on trim level) did have tilt and cruise w/PRND21 on the column. The newer column will be a bolt in, the problem youre going to run into is that the wiper switch is on the dash and the high beam selector is on the floor for the early 80's and on the turn signal stalk for the later G-Wags. For the newer dash cluster the original metal dash is still there, they just cut a lot more out of it to fit the later dash and moved a lot of the controls.

There was a write-up of a guy installing an XJ column and wheel in, he managed to get the column lights/wipers to work...
